There is further news about the murder of a Chinese engineer at Google in the United States, and local prosecutors say that 27-year-old Chen Liren is suspected of repeatedly beating his 27-year-old wife, Yu Xuanyi, with the intention of murdering her, and has been charged with felony murder. Both were admitted to Tsinghua University in 2014, and they all majored in the same major from Tsinghua University to studying in the United States, and then worked at Google, and just bought a house a few months ago. Insiders confirmed to the Yangtze Evening News/Purple Cow News reporter that the matter has nothing to do with the layoffs.

The reporter of the tragedy was a friend of theirs, and allegedly tried to call Chen Liren and Yu Xuanyi on the morning of the 16th, but the phone was not answered. When the friend arrived at their door, no one responded, and found that Chen Liren was in an abnormal state from the back of the house, so he immediately called the police.

At about 11 a.m. on the 16th, the police received a report of domestic violence, and after arriving at the scene, they found the suspect Chen Liren and his wife Yu Xuanyi.

At that time, Chen Liren refused to open the door, and the police saw him kneeling on the ground motionless, raising his hands and staring blankly.

The police forcibly entered the house and subdued Chen Liren. They found Yu Xuanyi lying on the ground in the bedroom, and found that she had suffered a severe blow to the head and a large amount of blood on the floor, walls, and the back of the bedroom door.

Chen's right hand was swollen and purple, and there were blood stains on his arms, legs, and clothes, as well as injuries on his arms.

The prosecution has preliminarily filed felony charges against Chen Liren, and the trial was originally scheduled to start on the afternoon of the 18th local time, but the hearing date has been postponed because Chen Liren is currently being treated in the hospital.

District Attorney Jeff Rosen said he called the incident a "domestic violence death."

According to the indictments obtained by the North American newspaper World Journal, the crime involved serious violence, threats of serious bodily harm, and showed that he had "acted in a highly cruel, vicious or callous manner."

The police denied the previous rumor that Chen Liren shot and killed Yu Xuanyi and then failed to commit suicide with a gun, saying that Chen Liren was suspected of hitting the victim's head several times and causing his death, and that he did not commit suicide after shooting and murder as reported on the Internet.

A Tsinghua alumnus and Google colleague of Chen Liren and Yu Xuanyi told the Yangtze Evening News/Purple Cow News reporter that the matter had nothing to do with the layoffs.

As can be seen from the social media of the two, their study trajectories are similar, with both undergraduate and master's degrees studying in the same majors at the same school. Liren Chen graduated from Tsinghua University with a degree in Electronic Information Engineering in 2018 and subsequently received a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego in 2018-2019. He joined Google in March 2020 as a software engineer after a brief internship in the Bay Area.

Yu Xuanyi also graduated from Tsinghua University in 2018 with a degree in electronic information engineering, and then studied at the University of California, San Diego in 2018-2019, also with a master's degree in computer science. After graduating, she interned at Amazon, then joined Amazon, and joined Google in June 2021.

According to public data, the house where the two of them lived was only purchased by Xuan Yi in April 2023, and the price was about $2 million, but he didn't expect that in less than a year, there would be a murder.

Nearby neighbors said that the young couple had just moved to this street, and most of the people in this street were retired residents who had lived for a long time, and the street was very quiet on weekdays.
