In 2014, Hong Kong singer Deng Ziqi (real name Deng Shiying, also known as G.E.M), who participated in the second season of "I Am a Singer", became popular all over the mainland with this song "Bubble".
Today (January 16), Deng Ziqi's former agency Hummingbird Music released a copyright statement through its official Weibo, which involves a number of Deng Ziqi's albums and a number of hit songs.
The statement said:
Our company (Hummingbird Music Co., Ltd.) is the exclusive owner of the copyright of the sound recordings, lyrics and music of the musical works listed below, and has the exclusive right to license the aforementioned musical works for various commercial or non-commercial purposes worldwide. Without the permission of our company, it is forbidden for any unit or individual to use the following musical works for covering, copying, performing, network transmission and other commercial purposes. Any use without our permission is a violation of our legal rights, and we reserve the right to pursue its legal responsibility.
The list of musical works in the appendix includes more than 100 songs such as "Bubbles", "Sleeping Princess", "A.I.N.Y. (Love You)", "My Secret", and "How Far We Have to Be Together". More than half of the songs were composed by Deng Ziqi.
According to the data, in 2014, Hummingbird Music has registered the stage name "Deng Ziqi" as a trademark.
On March 7, 2019, Deng Ziqi unilaterally announced the termination of the contract with Hummingbird Music, but was not recognized by Hummingbird Music. Hummingbird Music stated at the time that the company had signed two contracts with G.E.M. Deng Ziqi, which were valid for 2022. Hummingbird wholly owns the copyright in all musical works and recordings produced by or in collaboration with G.E.M. during the term of the Contract, as well as certain other trademarks and intellectual property rights. In the same year, Hummingbird Music and Deng Ziqi sued each other for breach of contract, and the two parties went to court.
In Deng Ziqi's lawsuit against Hummingbird Music, Deng argued that she had signed the composer and singer contract because of the company's misrepresentations, and therefore claimed that the contract was invalid. At the same time, Deng Ziqi pointed out that Hummingbird Music had registered "G.E.M." in Hong Kong and the Mainland without his consent. and the trademark "Deng Ziqi". In 2020, Deng Ziqi publicly shouted to Hummingbird Music and his former agent on Weibo, "I am not a commodity in your hands".
