August 15, 1945 was a day to remember for all the Chinese people who had been devastated by the war and struggled under the iron cavalry of the Japanese army.
On this day of national celebration, the Japanese emperor sprinkled the voice of unconditional surrender on every inch of China through the radio.
But the joys and sorrows of human beings are not the same, and this news of universal celebration is tantamount to a bolt from the blue for some people.
For example, the commander-in-chief of the Japanese invasion of China, Gangmura Ningji, who was still on the land of China and had a million elite soldiers, was caught off guard by this sudden news.
As an executive, is Ninji Okamura really ignorant of the decision to surrender?
How would he feel when he heard the news?
Before Japan's surrender, more than a dozen top-secret telegrams received by Okamura Ninji may give us the answer.
Back in April 1945, when a full-scale counteroffensive was launched on all major battlefields, the fascist forces were defeated and defeated one after another, and the victory was decided.
However, the Japanese Prime Minister at the time, Kantaro Suzuki, was extremely firm, insisting on continuing the war on the surface and never surrendering.
Even after Hitler's suicide and Germany's surrender, Kantaro Suzuki still introduced laws requiring school-age youths across the country to enlist in the army.
In addition, after China, the United States, and Britain jointly issued the "Potsdam Proclamation" with the core purpose of urging Japan to surrender, Kantaro Suzuki categorically refused to accept it, and still showed a state of "oil and salt not advancing" and vowed to fight to the end.
But in fact, this is just a trick by Kantaro Suzuki on the surface.
Privately, the Japanese side has softened its attitude a long time ago, and has been negotiating with the United States through various channels with the aim of achieving peace while maintaining the Japanese imperial system.
However, due to the fact that both sides did not give an inch, it was difficult to advance the negotiations, and they became very stalemate for a while.
Therefore, in this situation, Gangmura Ningji, who was on the battlefield in China, received many messages with diametrically opposed attitudes that made him confused.
The day after the atomic bomb exploded on Japanese soil, Okamura Ninji heard rumors of Japan's imminent surrender.
In the intelligence he has gathered, many Chinese have begun to celebrate victory.
However, the order sent by the Japanese government was to order Okamura Ninji to prepare for all-out combat and to make all-out efforts against the Soviet Union and the United States.
Two days later, Okamura Ninji, who was ready to fight at any time, again received a secret telegram from the Japanese government.
The secret telegram read: If the conditions can be met without changing the emperor's ruling power, he will accept surrender. The words on the secret telegram made Gangcun Ningci's eyes darken.
With millions of elite soldiers in his hands and ready for war, Okamura Ninji got his first glimpse of the emperor's true intentions.
But less than a day later, the order changed again, and Okamura Ninji received a secret telegram from the chief of staff of the army.
The other party's tone in the telegram was resolute, telling Gangmura Ningji to be ready to fight at all times, and to hold the determination of "preferring jade to pieces".
The next day, a secret telegram was sent from Tokyo saying that part of the troops would be transferred to the Liaodong Peninsula to prepare for a protracted war.
The next few telegrams, without exception, were all expressions of Tokyo's determination to fight to the death.
At this point, the situation of fighting a continuous war was very clear, and Okamura Ninji could only ask the emperor to continue the war, and give the order of the battle to each legion.
But as soon as the order was issued, the situation changed abruptly, and Gangcun Ningji received an urgent telegram saying that the worst situation was a foregone conclusion.
Just a few words disturbed Gangcun Ningci's mind, what the worst situation was, Gangcun Ningci knew better than anyone else, but he could only pretend to be confused and quietly wait for the official notice.
When the time finally came on August 15, Okamura Ninji, dressed in military uniform, sat in front of the announcement, waiting for the emperor's final order.
The words "unconditional surrender" were like a blow on the head and hit Gangcun Ningci's heart, everything was settled, and Gangcun Ningci was stunned and couldn't believe his ears.
Subsequently, Japan sent a secret telegram saying that it would cease all combat operations.
