Recent developments have revealed that the war has taken a toll on civilians and economies and societies, and the spotlight seems to be focused on new issues such as Lashio and the urban areas of Mandalay. It is worth mentioning that there are about 800,000 Chinese in northern Myanmar, which is also a major port for trade on the China-Myanmar border. Although all parties have different interests and aspirations in the peace talks, the Chinese side solemnly promises to make every effort to maintain stability along the China-Myanmar border. Against this backdrop, we look forward to the eventual agreement between the parties and the achievement of peace.
According to the latest information, gunmen in northern Myanmar are gradually moving out of the Lao Cai area, and the area has now largely returned to calm. Although the military standoff has not yet completely ended, people's lives have begun to gradually normalize. This situation is due to the active mediation of the Chinese side. It is reported that the relevant leading representatives of China have held an in-depth dialogue with the Myanmar side on the 6th of this month. The Chinese side expressed the hope that through in-depth cooperation between China and Myanmar, we can jointly promote regional peace and stability and promote economic prosperity and development. With regard to the situation in northern Myanmar, we stand firm and will continue to play a constructive role in supporting the peace process in northern Myanmar.
Second, the discussion of the interests of the warring parties may be deadlocked. Over time, the Kokang Allied forces gradually gained control of the area west of the Salween River in northern Burma. However, this evolution has also made their relationship with Min Aung Hlaing's forces extremely complicated. Although Min Aung Hlaing claims that he supports the establishment of an autonomous body in the Kokang region, in reality he only wants to replace the previous system of governance that was run by Bai Sojo and others, but with a slight difference in the degree of autonomy. The current situation shows that the focus of the peace talks may be on the issue of the ownership of Lashio, the negotiation of the handover of the Internet fraud gang headed by Bai Socheng, and other practical issues involved.
On the issue of the armistice and the aftermath, the problem of electricity supply in northern Myanmar has improved after a long period of war. For example, at the beginning of the year 2024, the residents of the Lashio area ushered in a new life, and all walks of life hoped that Peng Deren could completely clean up the source of crime, lead Kokang to a new chapter, and put Kokang's recovery on the right track.
In general, although the rights and interests sought by all parties in the peace talks are different, we must recognize that war does not really solve the problem, and that only sustained peace can guarantee the harmony and stability of the country. For the Chinese in northern Myanmar, who have long been on the verge of discrimination, they are glad to have the opportunity to take over the reins. Therefore, we hope that there will be a truly lasting peace in northern Myanmar.
