The owner of a fruit shop told reporters that the retail price was 128 yuan a pound when it was first listed a few months ago. The price of cherries varies slightly depending on the packaging format, with the promotional ones being sold in bulk being slightly cheaper, and the ones being beautifully packaged at a fixed price.

Wang Yuan also revealed that sometimes shopping mall channels will retail cherries at prices lower than those in the wholesale market to achieve the purpose of promotion. In the later stage, the retail price will be gradually increased to make a profit.

China is the world's largest importer of cherries, with an average annual growth rate of 20.4% over the past five years, with imports reaching 378,000 mt in the 2022/23 season (April 2022 to March 2023), the data showed.
