Hogwarts Legacy, an action RPG set in the world of Harry Potter, is one of the most popular games released last year. The game has been praised for being faithful to the lore of the wizarding world, having a lot of open world to explore, immersive magic, art design, and more.
Warner Bros. Games recently revealed that Hogwarts Legacy has sold more than 22 million copies and said that more Harry Potter games will be released in the future to expand sales of the series, as the company hopes to use the game's success to overcome the DCEU's failures.
Hogwarts Legacy is one of the highly anticipated games, released in February 2023. The game is set in the 1800s, a century before the events of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels, and the story takes place in multiple locations in the wizarding world such as Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade. The game was well-received all over the world and received critical acclaim from players and critics alike.
WB Games revealed that the game has sold more than 22 million copies in 2023, making it the best-selling game of the year, ending the reign of heavyweights like FIFA and Call of Duty. The company also added that of the 22 million units sold, 2 million copies were sold during the holiday season. The game also broke sales records in the UK.
Had, president of WB Interactive Entertainment, said he was proud of the game's sales while also delighting fans. He added that the game shows players Harry Potter in a new way that players can be who they want to be, and developer Avalanche does exactly that, and it has received great praise from fans. He added that they are proud to be "among the top ranks".
Haddad also revealed that the publisher is planning to expand the world of the Potter Universe video game. He said that the Quidditch single-player game, called Harry Potter: Quidditch Champion, which was announced back in April 2023, has entered beta testing, and said that there is no information yet on when the game will be released, but plans are being made.
He further added that there are "a range of other things" that have not yet been announced, but are in development, which will allow players to immerse themselves more and more deeply in the "world, story and characters". After the stellar performance of Hogwarts Legacy, players are already speculating that a sequel will be released at some point in the future, which doesn't seem too far-fetched.
He also mentioned that these games play an important role in keeping the franchise relevant and getting fans excited. For Warner Bros., Hogwarts Legacy's success came at an opportune time, as the company was dealing with the complete failure of the DCEU despite having some of its most iconic superheroes.
A series of poor creative decisions and inconsistencies and a lack of vision for the project led to the failure of the DC Extended Universe, and Hogwarts Legacy gave Warner Bros. a fresh start, and the company now hopes to build on it.
