As early as September 2023, Toyota pointed out that it has sold the TNGA-based engine to Changan Mazda, and its related technology has been installed in the previously launched CX-50 hybrid model. According to the previous Changan Mazda official announcement of the brand's new energy passenger car C and D-class sedan projects, as well as the previous news that Toyota and Mazda jointly developed the new Ma 6, the new Ma 6 is likely to be combined with Toyota's THS power on the basis of the lengthened size. It has become an important carrier of Changan Mazda's new energy strategy.

According to the current Toyota models equipped with the fifth-generation THS hybrid system, the first "THS version of Mazda6" is likely to be equipped with the same 2.0L engine + motor as the new generation Camry Shuangqing version model, according to the information released so far, the maximum horsepower of the engine is only 152 horsepower, and the peak torque has not yet been announced, and compared with the 2.0L version of Artez, it is basically the same in terms of performance, and the main advantage is still reflected in fuel economy.

At this time, let's look back at China's new energy vehicle market, and now with the continuous decline in the price of plug-in hybrid and extended range models, as well as the continuous filling of different market segments, the basic gasoline-electric hybrid is no longer the mainstream, and even in the eyes of many people, it is not even "new energy".

In addition to this powertrain, according to the official information given by Changan Mazda, the corresponding models of the Mazda 6 will also be launched in plug-in hybrid and pure electric versions in the future.

First of all, the plug-in hybrid version, if it is also equipped with a powertrain purchased from TNGA, it is likely to use Toyota's Shuangqing E+, that is, the powertrain on the high-performance version of Veranda, which is composed of a 2.5L engine + motor + 15.98kWh ternary lithium battery, with a maximum power of 222kW and a peak torque of 391N· m, this powertrain will be more abundant in performance than the basic gasoline-electric hybrid, but limited by the battery capacity, it can only provide the vehicle with a pure electric range of 73km, which is also not advantageous in the market.

Whether Changan Mazda will take the initiative to change the equipment of this powertrain, the author believes that it is limited by cost and the probability is not large. As for the pure electric version of the model, I believe it will not be able to land so quickly. And it should be noted that the Mazda6 has always been a model with handling as the main orientation, and if it is lengthened in terms of size and the electric drive system is also added, it may have a negative impact on the handling experience that the vehicle has always maintained.

Is it really a right choice for Changan Mazda to use not advanced technology and platforms to create a product of "new energy for the sake of new energy"?
