Background and family history
In the chaotic last years of the Sui Dynasty, the world changed and heroes emerged. Li Yuan of Taiyuan, with a prominent background, his grandfather Li Hu Taiwei, his father Li Yu Shi Dafu, the governor of Anzhou, and the Duke of Tang in Sui. Intrigue and worry
After being promoted to the Taishou of Xingyang and Loufu County, Li Yuan was appointed as the ambassador of Hedong and the Taiyuan Guard. However, at the end of the reign of Emperor Yang of Sui, peasant uprisings broke out and the situation was chaotic. Li Yuan's strength was difficult to suppress, but he was worried about the suspicion of Emperor Yang of Sui, so in order to protect himself, he decided to act in advance and got the support of his second son Li Shimin.

Li Shimin's rebellion
Li Shimin, who grew up with the army since he was a child, has a rebellious and decisive personality. Although Li Yuan hesitated, Li Shimin believed that in the troubled times, Li Yuan just wanted to avoid war, but he was unwilling to delay time and did not want to become a victim of the Great Sui Dynasty. He consulted with his adviser Liu Wenjing and made a plan for the rebellion.

Liu Wenjing's three suggestions
Liu Wenjing put forward three suggestions: first, the uprising should not be publicized and should be completed imperceptibly; second, it is necessary to recruit troops and buy horses, and the more soldiers and horses, the greater the probability of success; and finally, absorb the strength of heroes, let them submit, and point to the Great Sui Dynasty together. These proposals laid the foundation for the success of the uprising.

Li Shimin knew that only Pei Lin could convince Li Yuan, so he skillfully arranged for Gao Binlian to lose to Pei Lian, who was addicted to gambling, to bring them closer.
