Following Sam Altman's removal as CEO and his subsequent return, OpenAI's board of directors and its representatives have begun discussions with candidates to fill the board.

Among the two board nominees are former GitHub CEO and startup investor Nat Friedman (pictured below, left), and Scale AI co-founder and CEO Alexandr Wang (pictured below, right), according to two people familiar with the matter.

It's unclear who else the OpenAI board has approached to join the board candidacy. Negotiations, which are still still in their early stages, suggest that OpenAI's board is looking to increase representation from companies that work with OpenAI, such as Scale, or companies that have partnered with other AI startups.

OpenAI's internal governance plan

Former Salesforce co-CEO and OpenAI's new board chairman, Bret Taylor, announced plans to strengthen OpenAI's internal governance on the occasion of ChatGPT within a week:

We will build a qualified, diverse board of exceptional individuals whose collective experience represents the breadth of OpenAI's mission – from technology to security to policy. We are pleased that the Board will include a non-voting Microsoft observer.

We will further stabilize the OpenAI organization so that we can continue to fulfill our mission. This will include convening an independent committee of the Board to oversee a review of recent events.

We will strengthen OpenAI's governance structure so that all stakeholders – users, customers, employees, partners, and community members – can trust that OpenAI will continue to thrive.

The new board of directors candidates did not consider the possibility of adding Ultraman more to avoid suspicion, OpenAI's current valuation has reached $100 billion, and Ultraman only needs to be a good CEO and ensure the commercialization of OpenAI at this stage.

The good news is that just today, OpenAI announced that it will launch a GPT store next week! Everyone can create GPT to make money, and OpenAI may really create an "App Store" in the field of large models~

And in a year or two, I believe that it will be a matter of time before Ultraman returns to the board of directors.
