After the founding of New China, starting from 1949, after three major transformations and other reforms, earth-shaking changes have taken place in China, and tremendous changes have taken place in politics, economy, culture, etc., especially in the military aspect, and the modernization and regularization of the Chinese People's Liberation Army have a solid political and economic foundation.

Thus, in 1955, the First National People's Congress passed the "Regulations on the Administration of Military Service of Officers," and on 27 September of that year, an all-army grand conferment of titles was held in Zhongnanhai! At this ceremony, more than 600,000 cadres received the rank of warrant officer or above, including 10 "marshals," including Zhu De, Nie Rongzhen, Xu Xiangqian, and many other founding fathers.

Looking back at this all-army award, people can't help but think of another person, a national hero who fell before dawn - Yang Jingyu.

Yang Jingyu was the commander-in-chief of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Federation in the early days of the Anti-Japanese War, and in his short life, he fought for the country and the people all the time until the last moment of his life. If Yang Jingyu can live to the founding of New China, will he also be awarded the rank of marshal in this all-army award?

生逢乱世

Yang Jingyu's original name was "Ma Shangde", a native of Runing, Henan. He was born in a poor peasant family, and his ancestors were poor peasants for three generations, and the family barely lived on those few acres of thin land. What's even more tragic is that Commander Yang's father died when he was very young, and the breadwinner of the family is gone, and the burden of the whole family is on his mother.

When she grew up, Yang Jingyu tried to discuss with her family, dropped out of school to work, and helped the family, but was stopped by her family - for Yang's mother, her son's filial piety certainly comforted her, but the child's future is more worthy of her attention. With the encouragement of his mother, Yang Jingyu continued to study, and at the age of 18, he was admitted to Henan Provincial Kaifeng Textile and Dyeing Industrial School, which started his extraordinary life.

It is worth mentioning that the year Yang Jingyu was admitted to the industrial school was exactly 1923 - from 1922, the workers' movement led by the Communist Party of China was rapidly developing throughout the country, and by 1923 it had lasted for 13 months. Although the workers' movement was at a low ebb under the suppression of the reactionaries, the 13-month workers' movement allowed the party and Marxism to spread further among the workers, further expanding the influence of communism.

At the same time, the progressive articles of Lu Xun, Wen Yiduo and others continued to ferment and exert influence among young people - Yang Jingyu was also one of them.

In fact, since the beginning of the May Fourth Movement, a hearty ideological revolution, and especially after the victory of the Tsarist revolution, the thinking of Chinese young people has begun to change, and after the founding of the Communist Party of China, more and more young people have joined the ranks of the revolution, and the same is true of Yang Jingyu.

Soon after enrolling, he began to participate in revolutionary activities with like-minded companions, and soon after was sent by the party to return to his hometown of Queshan to engage in the peasant movement.

The path of growth of revolutionaries

In 1926, Yang Jingyu joined the Youth League of the Communist Party of China and officially became a revolutionary.

In the same year, he was sent by his superiors to return to Queshan to carry out the peasant movement, and in just one year, he expanded the number of local peasant associations to more than 10,000 people, and even successfully led the peasant rebellion in Queshan, overthrowing the local warlord rule, and successfully occupying the county town of Queshan - the first peasant revolutionary movement led by Yang Jingyu, but it will never be the last.

After the 87 Conference, Yang Jingyu had already joined the Communist Party of China at this time and successfully led the Liudian Autumn Harvest Uprising. Of course, this is not the most important thing, the most important thing is that he successively established the earliest county-level peasant and workers' revolutionary regime led by the Chinese Communist Party in Queshan, and at the same time formed the first revolutionary armed forces in Henan Province, which opened the prelude to the agrarian revolutionary war in Henan.

However, his work on the ground has not been without its challenges. On several occasions, Yang Jingyu had already been seized by the reactionaries, because they knew that he had a certain position in the local underground organization, so the reactionaries tried every means to get him to let go and tell a little secret, or to directly defect; but Yang Jingyu gritted his teeth and was unmoved by the enemy's sugar-coated shells, nor was he afraid of the enemy's severe torture.

Fortunately, those comrades found him and rescued him, so that the hero would not die in prison.

Northeast Anti-Japanese Federation: From "Marchand" to "Yang Jingyu"

What really made Yang Jingyu famous in history was his past in the Northeast Anti-Japanese Federation. After the "September 18 Incident", most of the three eastern provinces fell rapidly, and the people lived in dire straits. However, the people of Northeast China did not give up, and they spontaneously formed the People's Revolutionary Army to fight against the Japanese invaders and fight guerrillas, hoping to drive the invaders out of their homeland.

At the same time, through the efforts of his comrades, Yang Jingyu was finally successfully rescued from prison. Prior to this, he had already held the posts of "president of the anti-Japanese general association," secretary of the district party committee, and secretary of the military committee in the northeast region, and had a certain understanding of the situation in the northeast; therefore, the organization ordered Yang Jingyu to continue to organize the anti-Japanese struggle in the northeast.

It is worth mentioning that it was also during this period that Yang Jingyu changed his name and changed "Ma Shangde" to "Yang Jingyu", and the reason is not complicated.

At that time, Yang Junwu, the political commissar of the guerrillas in Panshi, Jilin, had a good mass base and carried out the operation in Jilin very smoothly; however, Yang was accidentally injured in a firefight with the Japanese and had to be transferred to Harbin for treatment. After careful consideration, the provincial party committee decided to let Yang Jingyu take Yang Junwu's place and continue to carry out the anti-Japanese struggle in Jilin.

However, most of the guerrillas were armed in the mountains and forests, and they paid attention to brotherly righteousness, and many people believed that Yang Jingyu had "robbed" Yang of the position of political commissar. In order to dispel this misunderstanding, Yang Jingyu changed his name, which made it easier for the team members and the local people to feel that "these two surnamed Yang are one family" and would not affect morale; besides, the two political commissars were both "Yang political commissars", which was easier for the people to accept.

In this way, Marchand became Yang Jingyu. During his stay in Northeast China, Yang Jingyu united the local people's armed forces with the guerrillas and the Anti-Japanese Allied Forces to form the "First Route Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army (referred to as the Northeast Anti-Japanese Alliance)", and Yang Jingyu was appointed commander-in-chief.

At that time, the national army had basically withdrawn from the three eastern provinces, and our army was beyond the reach of the whip, and the entire three eastern provinces were basically encircled by the Japanese invaders - the Northeast Anti-Japanese Federation became the hope of the people in the northeast.

And that's exactly what happened. After the establishment of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Federation, Yang Jingyu led the troops to fight against the Japanese invaders, and composed an anti-Japanese concerto on the Linhai Snow Plain; after the July 7 Incident, the War of Resistance against Japan broke out in an all-round way, in order to support the Guannai, Commander Yang called on the people of the Northeast to rise up to resist and resist Japan together, and organized troops to carry out a large-scale anti-Japanese guerrilla war in the South Manchurian region, contain the Japanese army's combat strength, and give full support to the Guannai War of Resistance.

Although the general is dead, the heroic soul is still there

If Yang Jingyu had waited for support in the winter of 1940, maybe everything would have been different. It's a pity that he fought alone against the Japanese invaders for five days and five nights, hungry and cold, covered with gunshot wounds, he was unable to wait for rescue, and finally this hero fell in the snow field of Lin Hai.

Let's go back to the question at the beginning: If Yang Jingyu is still alive, can he be awarded the rank of marshal? We cannot give a positive answer to this question, but in the hearts of the people, this national hero who died young deserves this military rank! And his indomitable and indomitable spirit will surely be remembered for a hundred years!
