It's scary......
According to the GTA Durham Regional Police, an Uber driver who is suspected of sexually assaulting a woman may still be using other ride-sharing apps to pick up passengers!
Police said they responded to a call on Saturday about a sexual assault in the Taunton Road and Garden Street areas of Whitby, Ontario. Police said a woman was sexually assaulted while an Uber driver was taking her home.
Police said in a press release on Tuesday that they had charged Anees Ashraf, a 32-year-old Whitby resident, with two counts of sexual assault. The charges have not yet been examined in court.
In an email statement to CTV News Toronto on Wednesday, Uber said: "We are deeply appalled by the experiences reported by our riders, and this kind of behavior is not tolerated in our society. ”
"We take such reports very seriously and as soon as we learned of the situation, we immediately revoked the driver's permission to use the platform. ”
Investigators believe Ashraf may still be offering ride-sharing services, and police say they are in contact with the companies to make sure there are no other victims.
Police are asking anyone with new information about this incident or similar incidents involving the defendants to call the Major Crimes Special Victims Unit or provide clues anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
