Recently, some netizens posted a video on the Internet saying that a Mercedes-Benz EQC caught fire at the entrance of a Mercedes-Benz 4S store in Hefei, Anhui Province.
It can be seen from the exposed pictures of the scene that there were open flames at the rear of the two Mercedes-Benz vehicles at the scene, and thick smoke billowed from the scene. According to people at the scene, the Mercedes-Benz EQC suddenly caught fire, and the fire spread to the EQE car next door. Subsequently, firefighters extinguished the fire on the vehicle. In response to the accident, Mercedes-Benz officials responded that the store would conduct a detailed inspection of the vehicle that caught fire.
It is worth noting that this is the third time in the past two months that the Mercedes-Benz EQC has caught fire. On November 11, a Mercedes-Benz EQC in Anhui Province caught fire in the parking lot of a hotel in Jinghu District, Wuhu, Anhui Province, burning a row of vehicles parked next to it. As can be seen from the video sent on the Internet, the entire Mercedes-Benz EQC was surrounded by fire, and the fire at the scene was very large. In October, in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, a Mercedes-Benz EQC caught fire at the charging position, and the fire also spread very quickly, and a large number of open flames appeared at the bottom of the vehicle.
According to the data, the EQC is Mercedes-Benz's first pure electric model, which was launched on November 8, 2019, positioning a medium-sized pure electric SUV, based on the fuel version of the GLC, with a price of 579,800-622,800 yuan.
Although it is said that the new car is the first model of Mercedes-Benz's shift to electrification, it is officially pinned on high hopes. However, the launch of EQC did not meet official expectations. Relevant data shows that in 2019, Mercedes-Benz EQC sales were 258 units. Or in order to reverse sales, when the 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQC was launched, the official price was lowered, and the price range of the new car was 499,800-579,800 yuan. However, the price has been lowered, but the sales of the EQC have not increased. The data shows that the annual sales of Mercedes-Benz EQC in 2022 will be 3,303 units. After entering 2023, the sales of Mercedes-Benz EQC have not improved at all, with 2 Mercedes-Benz EQC sales in November and 169 units this year.
At the same time, Mercedes-Benz EQC has also undergone several recalls in China in recent years. In March last year, Beijing Benz recalled a number of models, including the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric vehicle, because the vehicle's MBUX multimedia display may not start normally, which will make the image of the rearview camera that assists the driver in reversing unable to be displayed on the display, increasing the driving risk. In August of the same year, Beijing Benz recalled 10,104 EQC electric vehicles due to the possibility of insufficient sealing in the cooling system of the electric drive module of some vehicles, resulting in coolant leakage and the reduction of the output power of the electric drive module of the vehicle in extreme cases. The official said that the improved electric drive module assembly will be replaced free of charge for the vehicles within the scope of the recall through authorized dealers to eliminate potential safety hazards.
What's worse is that in addition to the poor sales of Mercedes-Benz EQC, Mercedes-Benz's other electric models such as EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE and other models are also sluggish in market sales. Unsatisfactory sales and frequent recalls have put Mercedes-Benz in a very passive position in the electrification transition. Returning to the fire incident, although the official has not yet announced the specific cause of the fire, the frequent fire incidents have occurred recently, which will inevitably have an adverse impact on the brand reputation.
