Rhythm (College Entrance Examination Music Theory)

1. Rhythm

The exact height of the duel of the various tones in the musical system and their interrelationship are called "rhythms".

Musical rhythm is gradually formed by people in the long-term development of musical practice. In the course of historical development, according to the needs, people have used many methods to determine the height of each sound in the musical system, and the three methods that have long been influential and well-known are: "the law of the five degrees of symbiosis", "the pure law", and the "law of twelve averages". At present, the "law of twelve averages" is widely used internationally.

1. The law of twelve averages

Pure octaves such as c in a group of small characters to c in groups of small characters (i.e., c1-c2) are divided into twelve equal parts, that is, semitones. This kind of law is called the "law of twelve averages." Now the keyboard instruments we use in people's lives, such as pianos, organs, and electronic accordions, are all fixed by the twelve-point law.

The law of the twelve averages has been proposed as early as ancient Greece, but it has not been scientifically calculated. The first person in the world to formulate the accurate height of the twelve average laws based on mathematics was Zhu Zaiyu (1584), a great musician of the Ming Dynasty in China.
