author:CNR

CCTV Beijing, December 29 (Reporter Yang Chang) According to the Voice of China News of China Central Radio and Television, "News Has Views", in the blink of an eye, 2023 is coming to an end. This year, we recorded a lot of important moments, listened to a lot of moving stories, and there are always some people who make us unforgettable, and their stories have added a lot of color to our memories of this year. China Central Radio and Television's Voice of China's "News Has a View" New Year's Eve special program "Friends, How Are You?" will take you to recount with old friends, talk about the future, and look forward to the new year.

Dong Yichao, a "wheelchair boy" in Qidong, Jiangsu Province, who has been tormented by rare diseases for nine years, cannot move from the neck down and can only rely on two fingers to answer questions, but he faces life with a smile and is admitted to Southeast University with a good score of 632 points this year. He touched many people with his smile and positive attitude of embracing life, and received a lot of attention and blessings.

Adapt quickly with care and cultivate interest in exploration

It has been nearly a semester since Dong Yichao entered the school, what kind of new feelings does Dong Yichao have? When he came to the university campus, did he have any new changes in his life accompanied by his mother Gu Weihua?

Reporter: Is the adjustment period of college life over now?

Dong Yichao: It's over. My health is quite good, and Southeast University specially opened a rehabilitation course for me to replace physical education classes to ensure that my credits and my body achieve a win-win situation. The rehabilitation course includes neuromuscular electrical stimulation, hand detail exercises, mechanical training, etc., as well as teacher-assisted training.

Reporter: What is the specific teaching mode of the liberal arts experimental class of the School of Humanities of Southeast University?

Dong Yichao: The mode of major training allows students to have full freedom to explore various humanities majors, and then choose more interesting and suitable majors for further study according to your Xi experience and learning Xi results in two semesters...... But it's also true that this kind of very open-ended (mode) is actually easy to make people lose their direction, if you don't have a clear goal yourself, although you have cultivated interest, but it will also be more confused.

Reporter: Did you participate in any school activities this semester?

Dong Yichao: Before the official start of school, I participated in a debate competition, participated in volunteer service activities for the elderly during the Chung Yeung Festival, signed up for long-term volunteers on duty at the school's Mei'an Academy, participated in 7 humanities lectures, and joined the Volunteer Practice Department and the Culture and Sports Department to do some basic work...... Got to know a lot of people.

Reporter: You said that you have met a lot of people, among them are any like-minded people who have a deep understanding?

Dong Yichao: Not really. Because the university was a walk-in class, and I lived with my mother, I lacked the opportunity to get to know each other...... It's not easy for me to go up and down the stairs, and it's not easy to go in (someone else's bedroom).

"Live your life well, thank you for your attention"

This year, Dong Yichao has received a lot of attention, and has also completed the identity transformation from a high school student to a college student.

Reporter: What were some of the things you worried about before going to college but didn't happen in the end?

Dong Yichao: For example, at that time, the campus was too big, and I was afraid that my mother would push it very hard and tired, and I would not have time to go to class or something. The campus is indeed very large, but because the distribution of recess and course design is very reasonable, the transition is in time. Then I also received an electric wheelchair as a gift from a graduating senior, which reduced the burden of my mother's wheelchair to a certain extent.

Reporter: In the last interview, your mother and son spoke very highly of each other, after entering a new mode of life, have you both found a new way of life that allows both of you to reduce the burden?

Dong Yichao: After getting the electric wheelchair, it is indeed a little reduced, but because of the long class time and the need to sit for a long time, the electric wheelchair is not suitable for me to use during class, so I also have to take the original hand-pushed wheelchair with me. Even though I was in an electric wheelchair, my mom still had to push a wheelchair, which was actually quite tiring. If it's not very cold, I can drive an electric wheelchair, and then my mother sits on my hand-pushed wheelchair, and the two of us are like pulling a train, even if the load is reduced to a certain extent.

Reporter: Since you said that you were going to Southeast University, it has been covered by a lot of media reports, and after entering the school, people from all walks of life will come to pay attention, although most of these are based on good intentions, but they may also bring a certain amount of pressure. How do you go about debugging?

Dong Yichao: It's just to be yourself, live your own life, and don't take these things too seriously.

Reporter: The new year is coming, what do you want to share with friends who care about you?

Dong Yichao: Thank you for your attention, and I wish you a happy year.

There is another boy who has touched us equally. In the beginning of the school season this fall, a 15-year-old boy who lost his legs in Yichang, Hubei Province, insisted on participating in military training with the help of a balance bike. The boy's name is Fang Yuxiang, and when he was two years old, he was in a car accident that resulted in the amputation of both legs. This year, "bench boy" Fang Yuxiang was admitted to the No. 1 Senior High School of Yuan'an County, Yichang City, Hubei Province with excellent results.

Turn kindness into motivation to grow yourself

Fang Yuxiang and his mother Chen Yinlian were interviewed late at night, the same as last time. The boy who had just finished a full day of Xi was still full of energy and remained as positive as a little sun.

Reporter: After going to high school, can you afford to eat well, and are you comfortable with high school life?

Fang Yuxiang: Eat it. At first, I wasn't quite adapted, I was not very sober in my early self Xi, but now I feel quite sober in my early self Xi, I can remember things, and I feel that I have almost adapted to it.

Reporter: During military training, my father told the instructor not to give you special treatment, is this also engraved in your mind now?

Fang Yuxiang: Yes, I feel that I should try my best to try what I can't do, and turn what I can't do into what I can't do. If you only do what you can do within that range, your vision is still a little too low after all, and you still have to rely on others after all...... It's better to rely on yourself, sharpen yourself, and let yourself grow.

Reporter: Did you participate in any school activities this semester?

Fang Yuxiang: Yes, for example, the sports meeting. The sports meeting not only has sports competitions, but also parties, singing and dancing, and I also signed up to blow the gourd silk, and received a lot of applause, I felt quite happy at the time, and felt that everyone was applauding me.

Reporter: Do you have any wishes?

Fang Yuxiang: In the near future, I hope to get a good score in the top 20 or top 15 in the final exam, so that I can have a happier New Year.

Reporter: If I don't meet my expectations, will I be blamed?

Fang Yuxiang: No, that is to say, the most important thing is to have a summary, where did you not do a good job, is your attitude not in place, or is your writing not correct enough, is there a deduction of the paper...... Check yourself and think about where you lost points. After passing the exam, my mother naturally praised me or took me out to dinner.

Reporter: You have received a lot of attention, even if it is all well-intentioned, will there be some pressure to accept it?

Fang Yuxiang: There is definitely still pressure, and whenever I am under pressure, I encourage myself to do better, and use these kindnesses as the motivation for myself to move forward, so that I can get closer to perfection. It is impossible to be perfect, it must be a process of constantly approaching perfection and stopping at perfection...... Of course, in daily life, it is all about being a more authentic self, making yourself more perfect on the real (foundation), and I must first make myself happy – a kind of happiness from the inside out.

"I want him to be so sunny all the time"

In the evening, after Fang Yuxiang got out of school, Fang's mother and the cat would greet him at the door of the house. Tell your mom about interesting things that happened at school, play with cats for a while, and read famous articles in Reader...... These allowed Fang Yuxiang to learn to grow up and relax at the same time. "Growth" is also the key word that Fang's mother most often mentions when she talks about her son.

Reporter: After entering high school, has Yuxiang changed any time?

Ms Chan: Yes, there are a lot of things that he is slowly learning to grow. Like self-care in life, he will do what he can by himself, not necessarily saying that he has to wait for me to complete it for him.

Reporter: Has Yuxiang always been so cheerful and sunny?

Ms. Chen: When he was very young, whenever he encountered something that might affect him, I would actively enlighten and explain to him, and then he was quite sensible, and he understood a lot of things as soon as he talked about them, so his personality has always been like this from elementary school to now. When I first started school, I was always afraid that he would not fit in at school and that he would be isolated by his classmates, but I felt that he handled it quite well on his own.

Reporter: Do you have any expectations for Yuxiang now?

Ms. Chen: The biggest expectation is that I hope that his mentality will always be so good and sunny. One of the things I always tell him is that there are a lot of people who know you online, and you know what people like most about you? is that you are sunny and cheerful, and I want you to keep that forever.
