As of December 24, the Wuyi Bird Watching Association observed a total of 18 Chinese mergansers, as well as 3 common mergansers, a total of 21 mergansers. It is the fourth year that the Chinese mergansers have wintered in Dongyou Town, and the number has increased from 9 to 18 this year.

The Chinese merganser is a species that survived after the Tertiary glacial period, and is the oldest wild duck in China, having lived on the earth for more than 10 million years. The Chinese merganser duck is a rare bird endemic to China and is an internationally endangered animal under national first-class protection, with less than 4,000 birds in the world.
