Like the computer processor, the performance of the mobile phone SoC chip determines the user experience and service life of the smartphone. In the 5G era, with the rise of "Fa Ge", Qualcomm is no longer a dominant player in the field of mobile phone Soc chips.

Recently, Counterpoint Research, a well-known market research agency, announced the share report of smartphone application processors (APs) in the third quarter of 2023.

According to the data, MediaTek has won the first place in the global smartphone application processor market share with a market share of 33%.

The second and third largest market shares are Qualcomm and Apple, with market shares of 28% and 18%, respectively. UNISOC and Samsung ranked fourth and fifth respectively with a market share of 13% and 5%.

Market share can only indicate that the shipment volume is high, and it may not be proportional to the revenue.

In terms of revenue, Fa Ge can only rank third with a share of 15%, Qualcomm and Apple rank first and second with 40% and 31% respectively.

This is because in terms of high-end processors, most Android mobile phone manufacturers still choose Qualcomm. Models equipped with the Dimensity 9200 series and Dimensity 9300 are still much less than the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen3 models.

Apple's A-series processors have always only been high-end, especially the A17 Pro carried by the iPhone15 Pro, which used TSMC's 3nm process for the first time, and the Dimensity 9300 and Snapdragon 8Gen3 still continue to use the 4nm process.

It is worth mentioning that Huawei's HiSilicon ranks fifth in revenue with a share of 3%. The launch of the Mate60 series and MateX5, as well as the MatePad Pro 13.2 in Q3, is the reason why HiSilicon is back in the top 5.

Huawei has announced that it will release the nova12 series on December 26, and the current news shows that the nova12 series will use Qualcomm's chips in addition to the vitality version, and the other three models will also use Kirin chips.

According to a data report from last year, HiSilicon's market share of chips fell from 3% in the second quarter of 2021 to 0% in the second and third quarters of 2022, which means that HiSilicon's inventory of Kirin chips has basically been exhausted. After a year, although HiSilicon's market share is still close to zero, it has quietly returned to the top 5 in terms of sales revenue.

Industry insiders broke the news that Huawei will stop purchasing Soc chips from Qualcomm next year, and with the full return of Kirin, it is expected that smartphone shipments will reach 100 million units next year.

Therefore, it is expected that by next year, HiSilicon's market share in smartphone application processors should also return to the top 5, becoming a strong competitor of Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Apple.
