According to BYD's official WeChat account, on December 22, 2023, BYD announced that it will build a new energy vehicle production base in Szeged, Hungary, which will be built in phases and is expected to create thousands of local jobs.

According to Jiemian News, this is also the first passenger car factory built by a Chinese automobile company in Europe.

The new production base plans to adopt the world's advanced process equipment and highly automated production processes to build the world's leading new energy vehicle manufacturing base. The construction of the production base will actively promote the development of the local economy, promote technological exchanges and innovation between China and Hungary, and help the local community build a green "ecosystem" with the advantages of BYD's own entire industrial chain.

Hungary is located in the heart of the European continent, is an important transportation hub in Europe, and the Hungarian automobile industry has a long history of development, with developed infrastructure and mature automobile industry base, which provides a good opportunity for BYD to build factories in the local area.

Adhering to the environmental protection vision of "cooling the earth by 1°C", BYD hopes to accelerate the pace of new energy passenger vehicles going to the European market, further deepen the global layout, and actively promote the green transformation of the global energy structure.

In fact, before that, BYD had already built a factory in Hungary. As early as 2016, BYD announced the construction of a bus manufacturing plant in the northern Hungarian city of Komarom. The following year, the plant was officially inaugurated and put into operation.

On December 1, BYD announced that it sold 301378 passenger cars in November, a year-on-year increase of 31%, and 170,150 pure electric passenger cars in November, a year-on-year increase of 49%. BYD's passenger car business only entered the Hungarian market in October this year, and the company opened two stores in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and brought three pure electric models: the BYD ATTO 3 (Yuan PLUS), the Dolphin and the Seal.

On November 24, BYD's 6,000,000th new energy vehicle rolled off the assembly line at its Zhengzhou plant.

BYD went from the "5 millionth" to the "6nd million" in just over 3 months, setting a new record in production and sales with a rapid trend. This is not only another milestone for BYD, but also a microcosm of China's new energy vehicle development, further promoting China's new energy vehicle industry to enter a large-scale, globalized high-quality development stage.

BYD is actively expanding the global market and adopting a parallel model of export and local production to accelerate the expansion of the global territory of new energy passenger vehicles. At present, BYD's new energy passenger vehicles have entered 58 overseas countries and regions such as Germany, Japan, France, Brazil, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates, with a total overseas sales of more than 200,000 units, and have successively won the sales championship in the new energy vehicle market in Thailand, Brazil and other places. At the same time, BYD attracted much attention at the Munich Motor Show and the Tokyo Mobility Show, and its models such as Han, Seal, Yuan PLUS, and Dolphin have been recognized by more and more international consumers. BYD and many independent brands are entering the field of vision of global users, promoting the global automotive industry to accelerate into the new energy era.
