On December 6, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said at the Central Emergency Response Fund pledging meeting that the United Nations Fund is facing a funding gap and hopes that China can increase its donations. He also said that he hoped that it would reach $1 billion in the future.
Obviously, Guterres deliberately mentioned China in his speech in the hope that China will continue to donate to the United Nations to fill the funding gap for the United Nations.
But in fact, as a member of the United Nations and as a responsible major country in the world, we have always been very honest in paying our dues to the United Nations.
On November 15 this year, the mainland paid another 446 million yuan in regular membership dues.
This contribution rate is very high among all members of the United Nations. It can be said that the mainland is one of the largest contributors to the United Nations.
In fact, any international organization needs membership fees if it wants to operate, and the same is true for the United Nations.
As a world-class organization, the United Nations requires every member to pay a membership fee. The proportion of contributions is established according to the different factors such as population size and economic development of each country.
Generally speaking, countries with more people and higher GDP have a larger proportion of contributions.

The United States has a bad record at the United Nations

It was also during the Trump administration that the United States made it clear that it would suspend the payment of contributions to the United Nations. As for the arrears already owed, the United States said that it would not pay.
In fact, the United Nations also has relevant regulations on the issue of arrears.
In the Constitution of the United Nations, it is written that if a Member State owes more than the amount of its contributions due for the preceding two years, it loses its right to vote. In other words, if the United States continues to insist on going its own way, according to the content of the document, it will no longer be able to continue to use the "one-vote veto" and other voting rights.

Guterres has no choice but to pin his hopes on China, a country that abides by its regulations and fulfills its obligations, for a member state like the United States, which refuses to pay its dues.
However, although China has done its part in accordance with the regulations, it does not mean that we can really meet the "needs of the United Nations".
Today, the proportion of the mainland's contributions to the United Nations has accounted for 15.254 percent of all contributions, and this amount is already full of sincerity.
But the United Nations is clearly not satisfied, and now Guterres is once again opening up to China. And to this kind of behavior of the United Nations, we have replied with only four big words: do your best.
These four words may seem polite, but they actually have a deep meaning.
The United Nations was established with the intention that all countries should express their demands on an impartial platform and discuss international affairs on an equal footing. However, judging from the current situation, it is clear that the United Nations has lost the ability to restrain the United States.
Therefore, the best efforts of the Chinese side in reply are actually very wise.
This means that we can have a high ceiling and a low ceiling on the payment of dues and other activities. China's behavior depends on how the United Nations handles international issues.
As far as the United Nations is concerned, instead of constantly putting pressure on China, it is better to think about how to increase revenue and reduce expenditure, how to effectively restrain the United States, and how to return the arrears.
