The reporter's on-site visit found that the entire arm could even be completely submerged in the snow.
In addition, Yantai Muping Station was 39 cm, which also broke the record for the largest snow depth in the local area.
"This blizzard process is an extreme event"
Yantai Meteorological Bureau of Shandong Province introduced: Yantai and Weihai, as typical coastal cities, due to the snowfall in winter, form a unique coastal snow city style, known as "China's snow nest".
Yang Chengfang, chief forecaster of the Shandong Provincial Meteorological Observatory, said that from the afternoon of the 15th to the 17th, under the influence of strong cold air, there was a cold current blizzard in Weihai and Yantai, of which four meteorological stations in Muping, Wendeng, Rongcheng and Weihai urban areas had a cumulative snowfall of 35.6 mm, which was already a heavy snowstorm. "This blizzard process is an extreme event."
Yang Chengfang said that from the 20th to the 22nd, under the influence of strong cold air again, there was a strong cold flow of snowfall again in Yantai and Weihai, and there was heavy to heavy snowfall in northern Yantai and Weihai, and local heavy snowfall. Due to the short interval between the two heavy snowfalls, the low temperature, and the large depth of snow cover, the snow cover will not melt for a long time, which will have an adverse impact on the urban operation, transportation and energy supply in these two places.
Nine road sections in Shandong were closed due to snow
Affected by snowfall, on the 22nd, 9 road sections in Shandong were closed, Yantai section of Shenhai Expressway, Weifang section of Rongwu Expressway, Yantai section, Weihai section of Yanhai Expressway, Yantai section of Pengqi Expressway, Yantai section of Longqing Expressway, Qingdao section, Yantai section of Shugang Expressway in Yantai Xigang District.
The snowfall in Shandong and other places will end one after another
Today (22nd), the snowfall on the Shandong Peninsula will continue, but the intensity has weakened, and the snowfall is expected to end tomorrow (23rd).
The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that in the next three days, the snowfall and rainfall areas across the country will be relatively small and weak. Today (22nd), there is light snow in parts of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu, western Inner Mongolia, central Heilongjiang, Shandong Peninsula and other places, among them, there is moderate snow locally on the Shandong Peninsula, sleet or light rain in southern Sichuan, and light rain in parts of western Yunnan and Taiwan Island.
The temperature from Huanghuai to many places in southern China continued to fall, and the central and eastern parts of the country warmed up significantly from the weekend
This morning (22nd), the minimum temperature 0 °C line is located in the area from southern Guizhou to northern South China. The Central Meteorological Observatory has issued a yellow warning for low temperatures for the seventh consecutive day, and the sluggish temperature in most parts of the country is about to usher in a turning point.
It is expected that before the 25th, most of the central and eastern parts of the mainland will still be lower than the same period of the year, among them, central Inner Mongolia, northern Shaanxi, Liaoning, North China, central and eastern Huanghuai, eastern Jianghuai, most of Jiangnan, most of South China, southeastern Guizhou and other places are more than 7 °C lower.
It is expected that after the 25th, the temperature in most parts of the central and eastern regions will begin to warm, and the temperature in the northern region will turn from the previous low to normal or high.
Why is it so cold this winter?
According to the statistical analysis of historical data, the winter temperature of the continent is generally warm under the background of El Niño, but the periodic cold air activities are more frequent, that is, the fluctuations of cold and warm are more obvious.
However, the intensity of the cold air process is not only affected by El Niño, but also has a lot to do with the fragmentation of the Arctic vortex and the disturbance of the westerly wind belt in the middle and high latitudes. Since mid-December this year, the Arctic vortex has split into two centers, located over Greenland and Siberia. With the violent distortion of the westerly wind belt over Eurasia, the Siberian high has strengthened abnormally, and most parts of the continent have changed from southerly winds to northerly winds, and cold air has moved southward, resulting in a sharp drop in temperature.
On the other hand, the El Niño-induced anomalous anticyclone in the Philippines transported tropical water vapor to the continental region, so the cold wave process from the middle and high latitudes combined with the abundant water vapor conditions from the low latitudes led to a large area of snowfall in the central and eastern parts of the continent. In addition, the increase in albedo in clear skies caused by snow on the ground also made the temperature recovery slower in the later period.
