I thought that the box office in December would still be harvested by a few domestic movies that were not brilliant but did not make mistakes, but I didn't expect that a "Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom" was released and directly won nearly half of the box office.
The two days of release have exceeded 40 million, and the platform predicts that the total box office of this film in the mainland will reach 260 million, but it seems that there is no opponent in the same period, but in fact, the failure of "Aquaman 2" has been announced in advance.
Because the first work directly won a box office score of more than 2 billion in China, the second part could only get 1/10.
It is an indisputable fact that the quality of domestic films is unsatisfactory, but this sequel to "Aquaman", which was once not favored but became a dark horse, has high investment and big productions, and even everyone's high expectations, and the box office still can't go up, so you have to find the reason from yourself.
And the spicy reviews on the release also directly show that the failure of "Aquaman 2" is not because the audience doesn't buy it.
The overall plot of "Aquaman 2" gives people a feeling of a hammer in the east and a mallet in the west.
For example, the focus of the plot is on the dual identities of Aquaman's father and king, but he can't balance the two well, and what he wants to present to the audience behind it is actually the contradiction between blood and race.
If it is portrayed as the main body and linked to the core crisis, the plot may be more brilliant, but the main content of this film is the revenge of the black manta ray for killing his father, which is not directly related to the original contradiction of the film.
From this point, it is not difficult to see that the main creator wants to present more content to everyone, but his ability is really limited, so he wants too much, and integrates a large number of elements into it, but in the end it becomes greedy and chewy.
So from the perspective of the overall story line, compared with the content of the first part, it has added a lot, and it is much more complicated than the first part. However, the sequel's pursuit of innovation and change is not as good as continuing the boilerplate plot of the first part, with an intuitive storyline, even if it is a bit of an assembly line, it is much better than the current lack of bright spots, and the lack of connection and logic.
The film has become a highlight that Aquaman has spent a lot of effort, such as creating a villain who looks powerful, but in fact, the villain character is completely untenable, and he is still a very tool type.
It has no effect other than instigating the black manta ray to do evil. And the reason why he was labeled as a villain was also because the screenwriter and director waved their hands and made him bent on destroying the world.
This is also a common problem of superhero movies, the villain must have big ambitions and big goals in order to be called the ultimate boss, if you don't want to destroy the world, it doesn't seem to be enough to just harm others, but this just makes the characters fall into a brainless routine.
In addition to the showdown between the villains, another main story line in this film revolves around Aquaman and his younger brother. Seeing this, it's hard not to suspect that Jason Momoa, who filmed "Fast and Furious", was infected, wouldn't the plot be good without brother reconciliation?
Before that, because the "hammer base" brothers' writing method of other superhero movies was very effective, the screenwriter and director of "Aquaman 2" imitated it again, so that the two finally recognized each other.
But presumably viewers who have watched the first part will feel confused, obviously the two still had differences about the position of sea and land before, why did they say no in the sequel?
And at the last moment of the film, it is also quite cliché to sublimate the value, so that the original conflict between sea and land becomes a reconciliation between sea and land, and Atlantis accepts human beings.
This kind of ending is already lackluster, and I believe many viewers know that this will be the result. However, the quality and standard of the first work are very high, so people are more and more looking forward to this sequel to continue the previous work, but they never thought that "Aquaman 2" had taken too big a step, and it had lost contact with many plots in the first part, and even mixed too many other storylines.
There are discussions on human nature, as well as attempts to balance family and career, as well as exercising royal power, protecting the environment, etc., "Aquaman 2" looks like a paper that looks like a word count, which looks neat and beautiful, but in fact, each subtitle is independent, and it doesn't even fit the theme.
Superhero movies like "Aquaman 2" also have one thing in common, that is, they want to portray the protagonist as an absolutely positive, even Virgin-type character.
No matter how the black manta ray in the film behaves as a demon, he will hurt Aquaman's family at every turn, Aquaman can't wait to kill him with a fork in the early stage, but in the follow-up, he still has the intention of saving the other party, which is really incomprehensible.
In order to make the film more interesting, a large number of action scenes were added, although these action designs are very pediatric and have no highlights, but the director still tries his best to convince the audience that their combat effectiveness is extremely strong, so they often fight with their bare hands.
What is the difference between this and science fiction movies that do not use a new type of high-tech duel, but instead slash each other with a big knife? And the combat effectiveness of these protagonists is still high and low, sometimes the strength of the enemy and the enemy is quite large, and sometimes it only takes one action of the male protagonist to directly knock down the villain.
But no matter how the director modifies the parameters of the positive and negative characters in the film according to his own preferences, the final result is the same, that is, Aquaman deserves such a title, and there is a taste of covering the audience's mouth and not letting him speak, and forcibly instilling the content to everyone.
And the special effects at the level of the Internet University are also very dissuading, not to mention how ridiculous it is to look at a character like a fly in various concave shapes, this red and green light and shadow is really like 20 years ago, when the special effects have not yet developed, you can only use inferior means to create a sense of light and shadow effects.
This kind of underworld green filter has completely made people feel how much money has been invested in post-production, but it seems too rough and perfunctory. Obviously, the investment in the sequel is larger, but it only presents such a picture effect, I'm afraid I didn't find a small cottage workshop to save money!
Superhero movies have long shown a decline, not only DC, but Marvel has let everyone see that the directors and screenwriters have exhausted their talents.
It's just a pity that the IP of "Aquaman", when the audience is looking forward to seeing a different superhero story in this movie, director Wen Ziren will be wrong and take the expectation as an instruction to delete and modify it at will, and the result is that this film gives people a feeling that the sequel and the previous work are not on the horse's mouth.
Stop insulting the IQ of the Chinese audience, feelings are not consumed like this, you really can't shoot and abdicate and make way for Xian!
