Extended opening hours of supermarkets and malls

Stimulate consumption

It's almost the most important Christmas in Australia, and although we have experienced a sharp rise in the cost of living and soaring mortgage payments in the past year, we will not be stingy with important holidays.

Many experts believe that even if the inflation rate remains high, everyone's consumer spending for Christmas will not be affected much.

Paul Zahra, chief executive of the Australian Retailers Association, said the influx of migrants into Australia and the rise in retail prices meant that overall turnover would increase by 0.6 per cent compared to 2022 despite tight household spending.

Retail spending in Australia is expected to reach $9 billion by Christmas.

Seafood, fish, lobster, oysters, champagne, Christmas pudding and more will be popular products!

Not only that, in order to facilitate consumer shopping, many businesses and supermarkets in Sydney have said that they will extend their business hours to make shopping more convenient for consumers.

Westfield Sydney's closing hours will be extended from 7pm to 10pm on Wednesdays and opening hours will be extended until Fridays.

Shoppers at Westfield Parramatta Mall will have longer hours to shop and close until 9pm on Tuesdays, 10pm on Wednesdays and until midnight on Thursdays and Fridays.

The iconic Queen Victoria Building, with its array of high-end shops, will be open from 9am to 9pm from Thursday to Saturday.

DFO Homebush will also offer a late-night shopping option for those who want to grab a gift at the last minute, with opening hours extended to 7pm on December 23, except on Thursday, December 21, when the store will be open until 8pm.

Those who prefer to shop online, it would be better to heed the warnings issued by Amazon and Australia Post this week, as the deadline for ordering packages and having them delivered in time before Christmas is fast approaching.

According to online shopping giant Amazon, customers who want to receive gifts before Christmas must order by the December 22 deadline, provided they pay for expedited delivery and live in a major Australian city.

For users using standard delivery, they need to place an order before December 20.

Similarly, those who rely on Australia Post for Christmas parcels will need to have their parcels sent by today (December 18), while Speedpost will need to be sent by December 21.
