In ancient history, the Tuanfeng region has undergone a long process of development. During the Spring and Autumn Period, this area originally belonged to the Chu State, and was later divided into Nanjun and Hengshan Prefecture. With the unification of Qin Shi Huang, the feudal system was abolished, and it became part of Jiangxia County.
During the Western Han Dynasty, Jiangxia County gradually evolved into a part of the Tuanfeng region. Later, Wu Rui, the king of Hengshan, established his capital in Yicheng, but with the dispute between Chu and Han, Jiangxia County fell into the hands of Liu Bang. The Tuanfeng area became part of Jiangxia County and belonged to Xiling County.
During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Sun Quan recaptured the city of Yicheng, forming a new pattern of Jiangxia County. However, with the wars of the Three Kingdoms period, the region was affected by many upheavals. The states of Wu and Wei successively ruled this region, forming the two periods of Wu and Wei.
During the Southern Dynasties, Yi County was changed to Nan'an County, and the county was moved to Wuhan Xinzhou today. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Tuanfeng region belonged to the Chen Dynasty and experienced wars and regime changes. With the rise of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, this area was divided into Tingzhou, and later with the establishment of the Sui and Tang dynasties, Tingzhou was also called Taizhou, including Nan'an County.
In general, in its long history, the Tuanfeng region has experienced many regime changes and regional changes, and finally entered the unification period of the Tang Dynasty.
