In the first round of the penalty shootout, Palmer and Wilson both hit. In the second round, Gallagher hit a penalty and Trippier missed. In the third round, Nkunku scored and Guimaraes also scored. In the fourth round, Mudryk scored again, and Ricci missed the penalty. In the end, Chelsea won 4-2 on penalties and eliminated Newcastle 5-3 on aggregate to advance to the last four of the League Cup.
