The story begins with the Tang Dynasty. At that time, Tang Taizong Li Shimin was in power, and he realized the shortcomings of the Tang Dynasty's system of electing officials. In the past, officials were directly appointed by the prime minister or emperor, which often led to the proliferation of vassals, pro-trust, and corruption. Therefore, Li Shimin decided to implement a more fair and beneficial system for electing officials, and the Jiupin Zhongzheng system was born.

The core idea of the Jiupin Zhongzheng system is to select officials by examination, divide them into nine grades according to their qualifications and abilities, and set up Zhongzheng officials as neutral examiners, who are rated according to their performance in the imperial examinations, and then determine the position arrangement of officials. This system, instead of the previous appointment and dismissal system, has made the selection criteria for officials more objective and fair.

With the implementation of the Jiupin Zhongzheng system, the selection of officials in the Tang Dynasty tended to be fair and enlightened. The selection method of attaching importance to the quality of talents became a highlight of the government at that time, and many talented young people were given development opportunities, and the development of society was more prosperous. The implementation of this system broke the power of local tyrants, promoted social mobility, and laid the foundation for the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty.

But with the passage of time, the Jiupin Zhongzheng system was gradually abused and distorted. Some local officials began to covet power and promoted their cronies and protégés to official positions, leading to bureaucratic corruption and social injustice. Later, in the Song Dynasty, in order to rectify the bureaucratic system, the Jiupin Zhongzheng system was reformed many times, but the effect of the reform was not significant.

By the time of the Ming Dynasty, the Jiupin Zhongzheng system had become obsolete and rigid. The Ming Dynasty introduced the imperial examination system, which made the selection of officials more dependent on examination results. The Jiupin Zhongzheng system gradually lost its importance and was completely abolished at the end of the Ming Dynasty.

However, despite the eventual decline of the Jiupin Zhongzheng system, it had a significant impact on Chinese history. Its impartiality in the selection of officials provided important experience and reference for the later implementation of the imperial examination system. The emergence of the imperial examination system further improved the official selection system, which lasted for nearly a thousand years in ancient China.
