Since the breakdown of the blue and white union, the support of the KMT's "Hou Kangpei" has risen all the way, approaching the DPP's "Lai Xiaopei", while the People's Party's "Ke Yingpei" has taken a sharp turn and fallen to the role of struggling to catch up. Under these circumstances, Ko Wenzhe, chairman of the People's Party, has taken great pains to reverse the situation, not only changing his original line of leaning towards the blue camp, showing that he is dark green in his heart, and being elected to turn Taiwan into a so-called "normal country," but also redefining "one China" on his own initiative in an attempt to get more support from the green camp.
According to Taiwan media reports, Ke Wenzhe said in an exclusive interview with the media that Taiwan and the mainland have a special relationship, and what Beijing is most worried about is the relationship between "state to state" or "China and Taiwan". When asked whether he would accept the "92 Consensus" after being elected, Ko Wenzhe claimed that basically the mainland also regards the 92 Consensus as "semiotics," and he would tell the mainland that the "92 Consensus" has been stigmatized in Taiwan.
In other words, Ko Wenzhe still insists that the "consensus of '92" is useless to Taiwan, but this is just his own words, and the attitude of the mainland side has always been clear, and the "consensus of '92" is the common political foundation of the two sides of the strait, and only when the Taiwan side recognizes the "consensus of '92" can cross-strait relations be fundamentally improved. One of the reasons for the continuous deterioration of cross-strait relations after Tsai Ing-wen and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) came to power was because they refused to recognize the "92 Consensus."
However, Ke Wenzhe turned a blind eye to this, and still said that the "92 Consensus" had been stigmatized, and even divided it into three levels when talking about "one China," namely, "one cultural China," "one economic China," and "one political China." Ke Wenzhe said that he agrees with "one cultural China" and "one economic China" requires the two sides of the strait to sit down and talk. As for "one political China", Ke Wenzhe believes that it is very difficult to realize, so it should be put last.
As a matter of fact, Ke Wenzhe's remarks are tantamount to separating "one China" into three parts, culture, economy, and politics. In view of the fact that Ke Wenzhe has already showdown that he is a dark green, and he has redefined "one China," it can basically be explained that Ke Wenzhe and Lai Qingde and other "Taiwan independence" elements are the same thing, but Ke Wenzhe is better at concealing his dark thoughts, and his dark thoughts are hidden under the glamorous words.
The one-China principle is the general consensus of the international community, and there is no distinction between culture, economy, and politics, and the three are inherently one. There is nothing to say about culture, although the DPP authorities are vigorously promoting the "de-sinicization" syllabus, Lai Qingde's deputy Hsiao Mei-qin still said that Chinese culture is an important component of Taiwanese society, and there is no real "de-sinicization" problem in Taiwanese society. Ke Wenzhe said that he identifies with Chinese culture, and no one can fault it.
The economy is a concern for all walks of life on the island, especially at the moment when the mainland has reviewed the ECFA and the hammer has not been landed for a long time, Ke Wenzhe said that he wants to talk to the mainland, and he should be able to get the support of some people. Ko Wenzhe himself also advocates the continuation of the ECFA, but he believes that the premise is that regulations on the supervision of cross-strait agreements should be formulated first, and negotiations should be started after the bill is passed. As for the political issue, Ke Wenzhe said that it is very difficult to realize, and in fact he did not say that he was dead, but the signal sent is very clear, and it is impossible to talk with the mainland about "a political China" at this stage.
Generally speaking, after Ko Wenzhe made his remarks redefining "one China," his cross-strait line has basically become clear, and he is following the line of "no reunification, no independence, and no force." This kind of argument seems to be able to cater to voters of all walks of life on the island, but in fact it is not flattering to both sides and has no characteristics, but on the contrary, it also exposes its own background colors, and makes the mainland people lose the last trace of goodwill towards Ke Wenzhe, who once shouted that "the two sides of the strait are one family."
