Located in the courtyards of No. 51 Huang Lane and No. 3 Qilin Lane in the Sanfang Qixiang Historical and Cultural Block, The Taiwan Guild Hall of Fuzhou often becomes a gathering place for compatriots in Rongtai on weekends. More than 100 years ago, it was the home of Taiwanese scholars. Throughout the ages, the Fuzhou Taiwan Association has carried the blood and affection of the two sides of the strait with the same lineage and the same roots.

Fuzhou Taiwan Guild Hall, also known as the Two Counties Trial Hall, was built in 1883 by the proposal of Liu Huang, the governor of Fujian Taiwan Military Preparation Road and The Inspector of Education, and was built in 1884 near the original Gongyuan on Zhongshan Road in Gulou District, which was dedicated to taiwanese scholars to come to Rong to participate in the Fujian Township Examination and enter the Beijing Examination at the end of the Qing Dynasty.

Show the origin of the Fujian-Taiwan imperial examination system

When I came to the Taiwan Guild Hall, I saw the white walls of gray tiles, hollow flower carvings, and wooden panes, exuding a simple texture. Pushing open the heavy latch wooden door and bypassing the bronze carved interstitial door, what comes into sight is the "Lianxin Bridge", which symbolizes "one family on both sides of the strait", and the open middle hall hangs four dynamic picture scroll screens of staying in the guild hall, meeting friends with literature, reading at night with lights, and going to the exam, telling the story of Taiwan's scholars' rush to take the exam.

The Taiwan Guild Hall is divided into four areas: historical theme exhibition area, contemporary thematic exhibition area, exchange activity area, and supporting functional area. In the historical theme exhibition area, the Wenjinshi, Wenjuren, Wujinshi and Wujuren obtained by Taiwan are recorded one by one, and there are also good stories such as father and son, Weng son-in-law, uncle and nephew Jinshi and teachers and students, and one discipline and six juju people, which show in detail the origin of the Fujian-Taiwan examination system and the history of exchanges and exchanges between the people of Rongtai and Taiwan.

The restoration of the Taiwan Guild Hall in Fuzhou is to truly tell the story of the two sides of the strait. In order to restore history, in July 2019, the Fuzhou Municipal Federation of Taiwan organized the "Fuzhou City Chinese Traditional Culture Exchange Delegation" and 16 people went to Taiwan to carry out chinese traditional culture exchanges and the restoration of the Fuzhou Taiwan Association, visited Hsinchu Zheng Yongxi Jinshi Residence, Taichung Wufeng Lin Family, Qing Dynasty Haidong Academy and other places, conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with relevant Taiwan compatriot associations, experts and scholars on The island of Taiwan, mutually corroborated relevant historical materials, exchanged views and views. When it was learned that Fuzhou was going to rebuild the Taiwan Guild Hall, Taiwanese associations, experts and scholars donated more than 30 volumes of relevant books and materials, and provided more than 10 clues to cultural relics and historical materials.

At present, the Fuzhou Taiwan Association contains more than 2,000 copies (copies) of cultural relics and historical materials, including the "Fujian Land Admiral Lin Wencha's Recital and Zhawen", "Lin Zumi's Restoration of Chinese Nationality Permit Certificate", "Fujian Taiwan Coastal Public Opinion Map in the Last Year of Yongzheng" and other reproductions donated by Lin Guanghui, the founding president of the Taiwan Anti-Japanese Relatives Association and a descendant of the Wufeng Lin family, which record in detail the origin of the Fujian-Taiwan scientific expedition.

"More than 100 years ago, every year of the township examination, the Taiwan Guild Hall in Fuzhou City would receive Taiwan students, and the scenes of students on both sides of the strait visiting teachers and friends and reading classics together can be read in these historical materials." Cai Hua, who is in charge of the daily operation and management of the Fuzhou Taiwan Compatriots Association, said.

Endowed with the mission of the times to promote integration

After the restoration, the Taiwan Guild Hall not only has a heavy sense of history, but also has a sense of mission to promote cross-strait integration, providing a new platform for cross-strait exchanges and cooperation in cultural, educational, economic, talent, non-governmental grassroots and other fields.

Since the inauguration of the Fuzhou Taiwan Association in November 2020, Many colleges and universities such as Fujian Medical University, Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Fujian Institute of Engineering have organized students to visit and study to understand the arduous process of their ancestors across the sea to take the exam. According to statistics, the Fuzhou Taiwan Association has received more than 50,000 compatriots on both sides of the strait, received 125 batches of various Taiwan-related units and groups, and held more than 50 friendship activities.

For Taiwan compatriots who come to Rong to start a business and work, Fuzhou Taiwan Association has enriched their weekend life and made them feel at home. "Every weekend, we look forward to the event at the Taiwan Guild Hall. These activities are close to life and promote exchanges, so that we can live a full and happy life in Fuzhou. Taiwan compatriot Huang Qijie said.

A few days ago, the Fuzhou Municipal Federation of Taiwan affairs established the "Taiwan Teachers' and Doctors' Home" in the Fuzhou Taiwan Association. "This 'home' is a new platform for teachers and doctors on both sides of the strait to communicate and interact, and we will establish the emotional bond of talents on both sides of the strait through it, and collide with the practice and prospects of integrated development." Yang Jun, vice president of the Fuzhou Municipal Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, said.

"This is a new foothold for doctors and teachers from Rongtai, providing a new platform for everyone to exchange academic ideas and strengthen interconnection and mutual integration." Chen Bairui, a Taiwanese physician at the Fuzhou Municipal Skin Disease Prevention and Control Institute and chairman of the Medical Service Committee of the Municipal Association of Taiwan Diseases, said.

Today's Fuzhou Taiwan Association highlights the promotion of harmony with affection, explores new ways in the integration and development of the two sides of the strait, and is committed to building the first home with "the most intimate service, the most active exchange, and the most harmonious emotion".
