However, just five minutes after Haaland's goal, Chelsea broke that curse. After receiving a corner, Thiago Silva nodded in front of the net to equalise for Chelsea. After the goal, Thiago Silva fell to his knees in celebration.
Thiago Silva's goal broke Chelsea's 617-minute goal drought against Manchester City and he became the first Chelsea player to score the net since Kai Havertz in the 2021 Champions League final.
Meanwhile, at the age of 39 and 51 days, Thiago Silva became the fourth player in history to score in the Premier League over the age of 39, following Sheringham, Wendas and Ryan Giggs, while Sheringham is the only player over 40 to score in the Premier League.
What perhaps no one expected was that in the 37th minute of the game, Chelsea completed the comeback, and it was Manchester City veteran Raheem Sterling who scored. After receiving James's cross, Sterling swept the ball to make it 2-1!
After the goal, Sterling did not celebrate, but when he saw James who provided him with an assist, Sterling still smiled and hugged James. It is worth mentioning that another Manchester City veteran, Palmer, was also involved in both goals, first keeping out Erling Haaland and allowing Thiago Silva to head over the ball calmly. He then sent in a clever pass from in front of the box for James to provide an assist for Raheem Sterling.
It is worth mentioning that this is the first time this season that Manchester City have been behind after opening the scoring.
