Lebanon in northern Israel is moving, and the smoke of gunfire is everywhere overnight! Reality is a wake-up call for China

In the current tense situation in the Middle East, Israel is facing pressure from many directions. While Israeli government forces are working to reclaim illegal settlements on the outskirts of Gaza, the military activities of Allah Lebanon continue to pose a threat to northern Israel. Although Allah Lebanon has not launched a ground advance, its artillery and rocket attacks have been enough to exhaust the northern Israeli army. This pattern of two-front operations has put forward higher requirements for Israel's military strategy and resource allocation.

In order to respond effectively to the threat from Gaza, Israel has tried to reorganize its army and move its forces from northern Gaza to the front line. But such moves have been met with further provocations by Allah Lebanon, which has increased its firepower and demonstrated a ground offensive posture that has forced Israel to maintain a massive military presence on its northern border. This tactic, while seemingly an old tactic, has shown remarkable vitality in modern warfare, in stark contrast to the traditional tactics of quick victory.

An analysis of wars since the 21st century shows that the blitzkrieg tactics of rapid interspersing are not always successful. In the case of the Russian-Ukrainian war, for example, Russia initially adopted a rapid intersperse, aiming to quickly break through the defensive line and encircle the enemy army. But the characteristics of modern cities, such as their sheer size, sturdy buildings, and complex structures, combined with the city's supply lines, make this tactic difficult to work. The defenders of the city can take advantage of ample supplies and underground networks to resist for long periods of time, or even counter-encircle the attackers.

This status quo dictates that modern regular warfare is more inclined to a protracted war of attrition, forcing the organizational collapse of the enemy by gradually weakening its industrial and combat capabilities. But at the same time, modern society's tolerance for war is rapidly declining. The reluctance of the population to live for a long time under the influence of the war directly leads to the fact that the state must go to war without unduly interfering with people's livelihoods, which is one of the reasons why Russia has not fully mobilized. At the moment, the tactics of not only Russia, but also many countries revolve around the attrition of the enemy's forces. Lebanon's attack on Israel is a case in point. Their actions are not only aimed at sharing the military pressure of Hamas, but also at the same time disrupting the normal life of the Israeli population and forcing the Israeli Government to take action. Post-21st century wars, such as the French operation in Mali, the Russo-Georgian War, the Gulf War, and other successful examples, were all because the targets of the attacks lacked the comprehensive characteristics of modern cities, so these "old tactics" worked. Therefore, while the traditional models of warfare may seem outdated, they still have their practical value under certain conditions.
