The United Nations General Assembly once again adopted the draft anti-United States embargo by 187 votes in favour, urging the United States to end the economic embargo against Cuba. At the recent United Nations General Assembly, States voted once again to urge the United States to end the economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba. The result of this vote was 187 votes in favor, 2 votes against and 1 abstention, which once again demonstrated the strong global opposition to the US blockade policy.
The draft resolution submitted by Cuba, "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba", was supported by the majority of United Nations Member States, with 190 of the 193 Member States voting, 187 of them in favour, fully demonstrating the international community's rejection of the United States embargo policy.
At the UN General Assembly debate on 1 and 2 July, the overwhelming majority of countries that spoke supported Cuba and demanded that the United States completely lift the embargo against Cuba. This global opposition is undoubtedly a serious challenge to US policy.
Dai Bing, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, expressed support for this position in his speech, pointing out that the United States has seriously violated the purposes and principles of the UN Charter by continuing to impose unilateral coercive measures against Cuba and other countries. His remarks were warmly applauded by the audience, and once again underscored China's clear attitude on this issue.
The outcome of this debate has once again shown that the majority of countries in the world consider the economic embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba to be unjust and a serious impediment to Cuba's socio-economic development. It is hoped that the United States will heed the call of the international community and end the economic embargo against Cuba as soon as possible.
In this era of globalization, it is impossible for any country to isolate itself. Mutual respect and cooperation among countries are important prerequisites for peace and development. I hope that the future world will be more just, equal and inclusive, so that every country can enjoy the right to development.
