From December 1934, when the main Red Army left, to the winter of 1936, we broke off contact with the Central Committee for almost two years. This is what worries Comrade Chen Yi and our guerrilla zone the most. Comrade Chen Yi often said: "If we break ties with the Party Central Committee, we are like children who have lost our mother, and we have to rely on ourselves to be careful." "But how to get the right approach is the most difficult thing. At that time, Comrade Chen Yi often led us to recall the instructions given by Chairman Mao, often told us about Chairman Mao's revolutionary practice, and tried to use Chairman Mao's line, tactics, principles, policies, and methods to guide the current struggle. The Struggle in Jinggangshan, Why Does China's Red Regime Exist? These classic works are very valuable to us. In addition, we have tried our best to get some newspapers in bits and pieces, but they are all reactionary, and we can only analyze them from the opposite side, and we cannot fully understand the principles and policies of the central authorities.

During the three years when he lost contact with the Central Committee, Comrade Chen Yi did everything possible to maintain contact with the Central Committee, demonstrating the high degree of organization and discipline of a Communist Party member. He had written many letters to Mr. Lu Xun and Mr. Mao Dun in Shanghai, hoping to find a relationship there. These letters are naturally written cryptically, with twists and turns. Due to the strict sealing of the enemy, not a single reply was received.

During his three years of guerrilla warfare, Comrade Chen Yi did not spend a single day looking forward to news from the Party Central Committee or pondering a way to contact the Party Central Committee. This eagerness to connect with the central government was once exploited by a traitor.

One day in early 1986, Comrade Li Xulong, the head of the traffic station, found a raw man in Lishan with tattered clothes, looking around and wondering what he was looking for. "Is it an enemy spy?" Li Xulong couldn't solve the mystery in his heart, so he arrested him.

After the man was sent to the rear, he wrote a note and handed it to his guards. The note reads: "My name is Chen Hai, I was left behind during the Long March of the Sixth Red Army, because I broke off contact with the organization, and I am now living on Dagengxiu Road." I have an important matter to meet with the comrade in charge. ”

After we investigated the Long March of the Sixth Red Army, there were some people who were building roads, and there was indeed Chen Haiqi, and after carefully studying the situation he talked about, we thought that this person was still available. Comrades Xiang Ying and Chen Yi, pseudonyms Lao Zhou and Lao Liu, all came forward to talk with him. Chen Hai said:

"When I was building roads, I was very familiar with the Kuomintang troops. Life in the Kuomintang troops was very difficult, the soldiers complained a lot, and there was an opportunity to engage in soldiers' riots. ”

We thought that this was good, so we gave him some money and sent him to repair the road and carry out the troop transportation work.

After some time, Chen Haishan reported on his work, and he also brought a large volume of Hong Kong and Shanghai newspapers that he got out of nowhere. He said; "There is a company in the Kuomintang, the internal mood is very unstable, and the platoon commander of the third platoon, who used to be in the Red Army, has already connected with him. This company, I'm afraid it's not easy to pull it all over, the third row is sure, the second row can do half of it. The soldiers of the Kuomintang just want money, and when the army is violent, you have to spend some money! ”

We see that he had a point, and at that time, although the funding of the guerrilla army was very difficult, in view of the needs of the work, he was given some money. And tell him: you should catch big fish, don't pull it now, so as not to hit the grass and startle the snake. Tell him to wait for the moment and listen to instructions.

In mid-October, he brought some Hong Kong and Shanghai newspapers to pick him up, saying that he had moved to Dayu City and left his address. He said: If you have any instructions, you can send someone to contact me. After that, he went down the mountain. Before leaving, Comrade Chen Yi also told him that there were bad people in the city and asked him to be more careful.

A few days later, one afternoon, a letter arrived from the traffic station. When I took it apart, it was written by Chen Hai, saying that someone from the central government was coming, and he wanted the person in charge to go out and connect. After receiving this letter, Comrade Chen Yi discussed with us for a long time. He was skeptical of the letter, and since someone from the center came, why not bring it up the mountain? However, if you do not go down the mountain, you may miss the opportunity to contact the central government. At that time, Comrade Chen Yi's heart was very ambivalent, how he longed to see Chairman Mao and his relatives sent by the Party Central Committee immediately, but he could not help but calculate the risk of going down the mountain. However, with the support of the underground party, the cover of the masses, and the vigilance, the risk is safe. After careful consideration and preparation, Comrade Chen Yi decided to go to Dayu in person. First find out Chen Hai's reality, and then take the second step. In order not to attract the attention of the enemy, Comrade Chen Yi only found Huang Zhanlong, the secretary of the district party committee who was familiar with the road, and went down the mountain together.

At that time, we lived in Yangmei Keng in Meishan. Comrades Xiang Ying and Chen Yi lived in one shed, and I lived in another shed because I was sick. On the day that Comrade Chen Yi went down the mountain, it was almost noon, when he suddenly heard "Ding: Ding!" ".

"The enemy is coming!"

The guards helped me up and hurried outside. Because of the suddenness of the situation, many partisans ran out of their sheds, some without bringing anything. We rounded the hillside and took shelter in a small recess by the stream. Here, with clear flowing water in front and steep slopes above, a few small trees hidden by the side, and some thatch hanging from the top, it is difficult to detect us even if the enemy walks by. It's a very safe place. We were very anxious in our hearts, always worried about the safety of Chen Yi and other comrades and guerrillas.

Until it was dark, my stomach was hungry. Deaf went out to scout, and when he found that the enemy was gone, he went to the house and returned with a few pounds of rice and fried some eggplant. We ate some indiscriminately, hurriedly looked for a few guerrillas, and went to contact each other separately.

One of the guerrillas ran to where we used to live, and when he saw that the shed had burned, the pots and bowls had been smashed, and everything had been destroyed, he went up the hillside where he used to walk. Over the ridge, I faintly heard someone shouting in a suppressed voice: "I'm back." The Kuomintang is gone. Come out! ”

The night was quiet, and listening to that voice was so kind. Who is it? He quickly hid behind the thatch to hear what else was moving. Sure enough, the man shouted again: "Can't you hear my voice?" The enemy is gone, come out quickly! I'm waiting for you. ”

This time, it was Comrade Chen Yi's voice. He ran out sharply to greet: "Comrade Liu, you are here!" We're all worried about you. ”

Comrade Chen Yi said: "Yes, how are you all? Where is Comrade Zhou? Find it! ”

So everyone connected separately. In the second half of the night, everyone gathered. At this reunion, comrades questioned each other with concern, talking about everything they encountered during the day.

Huang Zhanlong was originally a person who did not say much, but now he also said excitedly: After we descend the mountain, we will cross the lotus beam and walk straight to Chen Hai's residence. When I arrived at Chen Hai's house, a woman was doing laundry, and I asked her, "Is Mr. Chen at home?" ”

She replied, "To the regiment headquarters." ”

We mistakenly thought we were going to the "sugar shop" (we opened a "Guangqi'an" sugar shop at the Meifeng Bridge outside the West Water Gate of Dayu, which is a secret traffic station), so we walked towards the sugar shop. As soon as I turned the corner, I saw the Kuomintang reactionaries go straight to this sugar shop. We hurriedly turned around, turned into the alley, and then went around to sit down in a teahouse on the street. Seeing that our sugar shop was closed to the Kuomintang, he also arrested a person. Suddenly, the old worker of the sugar shop came from behind, put it close to our ears and said, "Chen Hai has rebelled, you guys go quickly!" ”

At this time, the enemy had already begun martial law. Comrade Chen Yi made a look, and I immediately got up, turned into the alley, and walked back along the original road.

Just over a big mountain, I found that the opposite mountain was full of Kuomintang reactionaries. Comrade Chen Yi said decisively: "I can't go now, let's find a mountain col to take shelter!" "Meishan is my hometown, three generations have settled here, and the mountains and waters here are ripe. Since joining the guerrillas, I have become more concerned about the caves and cols in the mountains. We soon found a small cave halfway up the mountain and hid in it with Comrade Chen Yi. Although the cave was small, it was safe, covered with thatch in front of it, and the enemy passed by him several times without noticing them. Suddenly the enemy was heard shouting: "Catch a bandit, catch a bandit!" ”。

Soon, there was the sound of the enemy's beating and scolding, a slap in the face, a gun butt, and another punch and kick. Then came the interrogation voice: "How many people are on this mountain?" ”

"Two." I could hear that it was Chen Chamei's voice. "Nonsense! Where are your heads? "I don't know!"

Another beating followed. Suddenly, a burst of gunfire was heard, and the enemy shouted: "The big man has run!" Hurry up! ”

It turned out that the two guerrillas hiding in the thatch suddenly pulled out twenty rings, took down a few enemies, and ran straight down the mountain, trying to lead the enemy away from Chen Chamei. The enemy scattered and shouted "catch alive." So the enemy searched all over the mountains again. Walking around in front of the cave, the enemy's remaining knives flashed and flashed at the mouth of the cave.

A small mountain bag, surrounded by hundreds of enemies, up and down the mountain, dragged back and forth, engaged for a long time, and did not search for a name. The vicious enemy cast a poisonous plot and set fire to the mountains, and the fire roared against the wind, and the woods and thatch burned to the ground.

Comrade Chen Yi and I were planning to break through the encirclement when dark clouds were in the sky, thunder roared, and a torrential rain fell from the sky, pouring water on the fire, and the enemy ran away. At that time, Comrade Chen Yi said very happily: "This is really the spirit of Tomarx in heaven!" ”

Huang Zhanlong's words made everyone laugh.

After the enemy captured Chen Chamei, he beat her to a serious injury, but she was always a strong comrade. I remember that this lesbian was Cantonese and a rural woman. After participating in the revolution, he behaved very well. This time she was arrested and held in Dayu Prison, and we did not rescue her until the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War. In prison, she never exposed any secrets of the party and the guerrillas. At that time, there were many such lesbians in our guerrilla group, and Chen Chamei was one of them, and their heroic deeds were innumerable.

Later, we learned that when Chen Hai went down the mountain the previous time, he was caught by the reactionaries, could not withstand the temptations and threats of the enemy, and shamelessly betrayed the revolution and destroyed our organization. The enemy wanted to take advantage of our eagerness to contact the Party Central Committee and asked him to write a letter up the mountain, assuming that someone from the Central Committee was coming, and tricked our leading comrades into going down the mountain. They waited for several days without seeing anyone descend the mountain, and seeing that the plot was bankrupt, this traitor sabotaged our traffic station while leading the Kuomintang reactionary troops up the mountain to search and arrest them, in an attempt to wipe out all the leaders of our guerrilla. Chen Hai went up the mountain twice, and although Comrade Chen Yi talked to him under the pseudonym "Lao Liu" and did not reveal his identity, he concluded from Comrade Chen Yi's remarks analyzing the political situation and being extremely familiar with the party's policies, that this "old Liu" must be a "big man." Moreover, he tried his best to trick "Lao Liu" down the mountain, always thinking that the "30,000 Yang Appreciation Ocean" could be obtained steadily. Unexpectedly, it was still a bubble in the end.

The enemy knew that Meishan was inhabited by the guerrilla leadership and surrounded the mountain and forest. At this time, Comrade Chen Yi's old leg injury recurred, and it was very difficult to walk. However, with incomparably strong perseverance, he endured the pain and led us to climb mountain after mountain, over ridge after ridge, avoiding the enemy again and again, and saving the danger. After more than 20 days of maneuvering, we finally broke out of the enemy's encirclement and safely moved from Meishan in Dayu County in Jiangxi Province to Beishan in Nanxiong County in Guangdong.

Comrade Chen Yi often did this: The more dangerous and difficult it is, the more optimistic he is, and the more he talks and laughs. This time he returned from the distress in Dageng City, and it was extremely dangerous. Comrade Chen Yi wrote down the "Three Chapters of Meiling", which swallowed mountains and rivers:

What does the severed head mean today? Entrepreneurship is difficult and battle-ridden.

This went to Quantai to recruit the old department, and the banner was 100,000 beheaded Yan Luo.

The smoke of the southern country is ten years, and this head must be hung to the door of the country.

After the death of the kings worked hard, the good news flew as paper money.

Joining the revolution is home, and blood and rain deserve an end.

Take righteousness into today's affairs, and plant free flowers all over the world.
