The "Shanghai Three-Year Action Plan for Promoting the Construction of a Child Friendly City (2023-2025)" proposes to strengthen children's reading services, optimize the children's reading environment in public libraries at all levels, and improve the level of children's reading promotion services.
Recently, the Children's Library of the National Library and the Shanghai Children's Library jointly released the recommended books for the fall volume of "Four Seasons Children's Reading" for the first time.
"Four Seasons Children's Reading" is a high-quality new book recommendation project launched by the National Library of China on a quarterly basis, uniting relevant people from the library, education, publishing and other circles to select, recommend and guide children to read excellent books, provide reference for individuals, families and institutional collections, and promote the communication of authors, readers, scholars, publishers and libraries.
Since its launch in February this year, the project has successively released two quarterly recommended books for spring and summer volumes, and more than 350 libraries across the country have carried out a series of reading promotion activities around the book list, covering an area of 20 provinces, 5 autonomous regions and 4 municipalities directly under the Central Government, attracting tens of thousands of children across the country to participate in the "Four Seasons Children's Reading" reading activity.
The autumn volume collected data from 157 publishers and more than 1,500 newly published children's books, and a total of 740 books met the entry criteria after preliminary screening. After review by project team members and expert review, 27 recommended books were finally determined, including 15 original books, accounting for about 56%. Adhering to the consistent principles of grading and classification, balance and balance, objectivity and fairness, the bibliography is oriented to four different age stages of preschool, early primary school, upper primary school and junior high school, and is divided into three themes: humanities, popular science and literature.
As the co-organizer of this release, Shanghai Children's Library has long assumed the responsibility of Shanghai Children's Literature Resource Center and Children's Reading Promotion and Guidance Center, and in recent years has launched a series of high-quality children's book grading lists that highlight Shanghai's urban cultural characteristics and are suitable for children's reading characteristics, such as parent-child reading, traditional solar terms, famous awards, and children's reading characteristics. Focusing on the autumn volume of "Four Seasons Children's Reading", Shanghai Children's Library has simultaneously launched a series of reading activities "Orange, Yellow, Orange, Green Reading, Golden Autumn", and will cooperate with public libraries in various districts of the city to carry out a series of reading promotion activities such as children's book shelves, famous artists entering schools, writers entering district halls, and online lecture halls, and inviting Borji Yuanye to give children's lectures at Shanghai Children's Library, Jiading District Library, and Luwan No. 1 Central Primary School in Huangpu District, Shanghai.
As early as the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the goal of building a child-friendly city was included in Shanghai's development plan for women and children. Shanghai Children's Library (Changfeng Pavilion), which has just turned one year old, actively explores the new model of "child-friendly + cultural and tourism integration", and constantly broadens the circle of children's cultural services, and will hold a series of children's appreciation activities of "Walking Reading" during the Shanghai Tourism Festival, based on the "one-meter height" to read books, see the city, see the world, and see the future, through the "Reading Architecture, Archaeological City" 1st Shanghai Youth Theme Photography Exhibition, "Less Pictures 100 Questions" on-site flash class, "100,000 Whys" classic collection exhibition, "Reading +" Nearly 30 activities, including study activities, invite children to share the beauty and joy in the fragrance of books, warmth and poetry in the city.
The Municipal Children's Library (Nanxi Building), which carries more than 80 years of history and reading stories, has also recently launched the first immersive reading space for children's writers, starting from the childhood of Mr. Ren Rongluo, a children's literature translator and writer, to explore the connection between past and present, writer and reader, classic collection and reading space. Young readers can not only read classics and manuscripts here, but also feel the renewal and charm of this building in urban renewal. It is reported that the future municipal children's library will use this as a base to explore the possibility of more dialogue between contemporary children's reading and historical and cultural buildings, and create the "most Shanghai" children's cultural venue logo.
"'One meter height' is to match the needs of children in urban construction from the height and perspective of children. In recent years, the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have placed the construction of child-friendly city public space in an important position in promoting the construction of Shanghai Library East, Children's Librarian Fengxin, Xujiahui Academy, Songjiang District Library New Library, and Dazero Bay Library, so that child-friendliness has gradually become the common concept, action, responsibility and cause of the whole society.
