In 1909, Le Jingyu opened Hongji Ejiao Factory and improved the traditional craftsmanship of Ejiao. He created the "nine days and nights practice ejiao method" and produced 12 unique kinds of ejiao, which was produced at that time for "Fu, Lu, Shou, Cai, Xi" five-character glue and 12 different models such as jingyan, ink ingots and excellent products, with an annual output of 5,000 kg.
Marketing Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhejiang, Fujian and Japan, Southeast Asian countries, the ejiao market is almost exclusively occupied by Hongjitang.
According to records, before the Anti-Japanese War, each kilogram of ejiao was sold for 24 yuan, and the flour at that time was only six or seven yuan a bag. By 1934, Hongjitang's sales were two-thirds of Beijing's, becoming an important source of income for Lejia. With the development of Hongjitang's business, Le Jingyu has successively established two branches in Jing2wei 5th Road and Jing2wei 1st Road, with a scale of "three stores and two factories" and more than 120 employees.
In a short period of time, Hongjitang became as famous as Beijing Tongrentang and Tianjin Darentang, and was known as the three famous halls in Jiangbei. What is less known is that these three well-known golden signboards are actually owned by the Le family.
