Phnom Penh, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Interview: The "Belt and Road" injects more connotation into Cambodia -- Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economics Ampon Monila accepted a written interview with a Xinhua reporter.
He said that the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" has made great contributions to Cambodia's economic and social development, and has also injected more connotations into the friendship between China and Cambodia.
Ampon Monila said that in 2016, on behalf of the Cambodian government and China, he signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Preparing the Outline of the Cooperation Plan for Jointly Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative.
This cooperation framework enables pragmatic cooperation in various areas such as infrastructure, investment, finance and people, and effectively promotes the diversification of sources of growth and the improvement of economic competitiveness.
Important results have been achieved in the near future through deepening the interconnection of transportation and power infrastructure, expanding the space of industrial parks, and strengthening trade and investment cooperation, such as the completion of the Golden-Port Expressway project and the commencement of the Phnom Penh-Patong Expressway project, the establishment of Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, the Westport Special Economic Zone and the Phnom Penh Port Container Terminal.
These achievements are all benefits of cooperation in jointly building the "Belt and Road".
Amponmonila noted that several of these priority projects have great potential for Cambodia.
For example, the Goldenport Expressway will enhance connectivity, improve logistics efficiency and reduce trade costs; And nearly two-thirds of Cambodia's energy comes from Chinese-invested power projects; At the same time, relying on China's assistance to build the China-Cambodia Friendship Hospital and other sports facilities, it has also helped the development of local health and successfully held the Southeast Asian Games.
He said that the Belt and Road Initiative has brought great benefits to the region, the world and even ASEAN countries in the past decade.
The Belt and Road Initiative plays an important role within ASEAN and helps promote infrastructure development and connectivity projects between Southeast Asia.
In addition, globally, "one supporting infrastructure openness strategy" has been recognized as one of the most widely practiced concepts and is essential for global business cooperation and sustainable development.
Through the principle of "consultation, co-construction and sharing", "A Supporting Infrastructure Open Strategy" paves the way for global peace and development and becomes a global platform for promoting human welfare.
Ampon Monila said that during Cambodian Prime Minister Hong Manai's recent official visit to China, the two sides agreed on the implementation of the Action Plan of the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Royal Government of Cambodia on Building a China-Cambodia Community with a Shared Future in the New Era (2024-2028), and decided to combine this initiative with the "Pentagon Strategy".
"We are determined to deepen the partnership between our two countries and achieve a closer alliance in terms of quality and sustainable development," he stressed.
