The image of this person in "Towards the Republic" is that of the late Qing Dynasty, one of the four famous ministers of ZTE. In the play, this person's life is "full of blood, worried about the country and the people." "Readers might as well guess who he is? I think everyone can't guess it, because he is Li Hongzhang, who is known as a traitor.

Li
Li Hongzhang started by following Zeng Guofan in suppressing the Taiping Army, and the Huai Army he organized fought fiercely, and in only two years, he suppressed the Taiping Army. After the Twister Rebellion, Li Hongzhang became the vanguard of the Twister Army. Twice suppressed the peasant uprising, became Li Hongzhang's standing capital, and since then, it has risen steadily, and the official has been in the middle hall.
After the end of the Second Opium War, the Anglo-French coalition army burned the Yuanmingyuan, and the Qing government was forced to sign a series of unequal treaties, losing a lot of sovereignty. Therefore, under the leadership of Yi Bi, Li Hongzhang also actively carried out foreign affairs.
The reason why Li Hongzhang participated in foreign affairs was, on the one hand, that he really considered that he could enrich the country and strengthen the army and resist foreign aggression, and more importantly, he could earn money by running foreign affairs. Li Hongzhang ran the Jiangnan Manufacturing General Bureau and created the Beiyang Fleet. For decades, the army was not strong, but Li Hongzhang snatched more than 10 million taels of silver from doing foreign affairs. As a result, during the Yellow Sea War later, many of the shells fired by the Beiyang Fleet, which claimed to be invincible in the world, were squibs. The army wants to defend the family and the country, and even weapons must be manipulated, you say that Li Hongzhang is not a thief, so what is it? Taking money is not the most terrible thing, what is even more terrible is that Li Hongzhang regards the state's factories and the state's army as tools for private people to gain fame and fortune. The Beiyang Fleet was built by Li Hongzhang, who believed that this fleet had devoted his life to not allowing it to be in any danger. In the Sino-Japanese Battle of the Yellow Sea, the Beiyang Fleet's Zhiyuan ship pipe belt Deng Shichang, the ultra-far ship pipe belt Huang Jianxun, the Jiyuan pipe belt Lin Luzhong, and the Jingyuan pipe belt Lin Yongsheng led the soldiers to fight bravely, and the last four pipe belts died heroically. We lost five ships, while the Japanese lost four.
After the Battle of the Yellow Sea, the main force of the Beiyang Fleet still existed, and the generals were fighting with the enemy, eager to kill the enemy, and morale was strong, and the Beiyang Fleet was fully capable of annihilating the enemy at sea, so Admiral Ding Ruchang wrote to Li Hongzhang, requesting another battle with the Japanese Navy on the Yellow Sea, avenging the dead heroes and defending the country's sea supremacy. Who knew that Li Hongzhang threw this recital aside, and he didn't bother to look at it. What Ding Ruchang did not expect was that the order to start a war that he had been waiting for day and night did not come, but he received an order from Li Hongzhang to let him lead the Beiyang Fleet to escape, and Li Hongzhang asked Ding Ruchang to lead the Beiyang Fleet to flee to the narrow Weihaiwei Port to hide. Five months later, the Japanese fleet surrounded Weihaiwei and shelled the Beiyang Fleet. The ships of the Beiyang Fleet were next to each other, unable to disperse the enemy, and became the target of the enemy alive, and one by one was sunk. At the same time, Japan demanded that Admiral Ding Ruchang surrender, but Ding Ruchang ignored it. When the Beiyang Fleet was left with only the last ship left on the surface of the Yellow Sea, Ding Ruchang was extremely sad, picked up the sword against the enemy, aimed it at himself, and Ding Ruchang committed suicide and martyrdom. The Beiyang Fleet, which cost tens of billions of silver to build, was completely destroyed, and the painstakingly cultivated naval officers were swallowed up by the crazy sea. Since then, China's territorial waters have become the vegetable gardens of Western powers, coming and going whenever they want. If it were not for Li Hongzhang's order for the Beiyang Fleet to flee because of his own selfish interests, how could the Beiyang Fleet have perished?
How is Li Hongzhang not a traitor?
Li Hongzhang's traitor to the country is not only this one. From 1883 to 1884, French troops attacked the Chinese vassal state of Vietnam and soon occupied Vietnam. And further attacked Guangxi and Yunnan. At the beginning of 1885, the veteran general Feng Zicai witnessed the critical situation of the war and actively prepared for the war despite his 70 years of age. Feng Zicai personally led his soldiers to build a huge stone wall 7 feet high, 10 feet thick, and 3 miles long in the ten miles of Zhennanguan (present-day Friendship Pass), and dug trenches deep outside the wall, and built an earthen wall parallel to it inside the wall. Forts were set up on the east and west ridges and strictly defended.
The French army attacked on March 23 with superior artillery fire, and the French commander Negri led more than 2,000 people to attack Zhennanguan in three ways, capturing three forts in Dongling, condescending to attack the long wall. Feng Zicai shouted, "If the Fa re-enters the customs, what face will you see the Cantonese people?" When everyone heard this, they all rose up bravely, and finally stopped the enemy's offensive.
At dawn on the 24th, when fog broke out, the French army slammed into the long wall in the fog, and the shells roared like a torrential rain. When several parts of the long wall were collapsed and the French pioneer troops had already climbed the long wall, Feng Zicai roared angrily: "All those who flee in defeat will be killed without mercy." He led his two sons and a thousand men of the large knife team to jump out of the long wall and rush into the enemy position. The soldiers were all moved to see it, and engaged in a fierce and deadly battle with the French army at the Pass Front Pass, and finally forced the French army away from the long wall. The generals went up and down seven times to retake the three forts in Dongling. At this time, the people of all ethnic groups on the border of Vietnam also came to assist the Qing army in battle. The French army was attacked on its back, the entire line collapsed, killing and wounding hundreds of people, forced to abandon a large amount of military supplies, and fled into the wilderness. This is the zhennanguan victory that shocked China and foreign countries.
The town of South Pass Victory
This was a rare major victory of the Qing Dynasty since the Opium War. Just when the whole country was celebrating, there was a shocking incident, and Li Hongzhang hurriedly signed the Sino-French New Treaty with France. The Sino-French New Covenant stipulates that the Qing government recognized France's right to protect Vietnam, allowed France to set up trade points on the border, reduced the tax rate of Chinese goods exported to France, and handed over the right to build Chinese railways to France. It was an unequal treaty that humiliated the country in an out-of-the-box manner. Thus the victorious war became a defeat, while France lost the war and won. The patriotic general Zuo Zongtang said: "As far as China is concerned, ten French generals are not as bad as one Li Hongzhang, who mistakenly fulfilled his life and will be infamous for eternity." Zuo Zongtang commented on him like this, Li Hongzhang is not a traitor, what is it?
Li Hongzhang's traitor is more than that. In 1875, Tsarist Russia forcibly occupied Ili, and the Central Asian state of Kokand Agubo invaded xinjiang, and the situation in Xinjiang was critical. Zuo Zongtang vigorously advocated the recovery of Xinjiang, stressing that the loss of Xinjiang would lead to the danger of British and Russian infiltration into the northwest, but Li Hongzhang strongly opposed the recovery of Xinjiang, believing that it was a desolate and barren land, and if it was lost, it would be lost. In Xinjiang, which accounts for one-sixth of China's Chinese territory, Li Hongzhang, a country in the middle of the country, abandoned it as if it were a ploy. It can be seen that Li Hongzhang is not only traitorous to the country, but also short-sighted. What is even more heinous is that in the process of Zuo Zongtang destroying his family and recovering Xinjiang, Li Hongzhang has been tripping. In terms of funds and materials, he not only did not support it, but also overthrew Hu Xueyan, a patriotic businessman who supported Zuo Zongtang, and caused Hu Xueyan to ruin his family. Li Hong thought that if he took out Zuo Zongtang's money bag, he would not be able to fight. Where Li Hongzhang's move is like a national middle hall, it is a villain who has fallen into a well! Fortunately, Zuo Zongtang finally recovered Greater Xinjiang, otherwise the consequences would be unimaginable.
Looking at the "Xinugu Treaty" signed by Li Hongzhang and the great powers in 1901, where did Li Hongzhang fight for the country? Judging from the content of the "Xinugu Treaty", the Qing court completely became a puppet of the great powers, and Li Hongzhang served the puppet. Seeing this, do you still think that Li Hongzhang is not a traitor? Even he himself admitted that after a lifetime of foreign affairs, what he did was just an empty shell. Li Hongzhang embezzled and looted more than 40 million pieces of silver in his lifetime, and the country was in trouble and greedy, who said that he was not a traitor?
Li Hongzhang is a traitor to the country, and the history books have long been concluded. Watching the drama "Towards the Republic" makes people think that they have learned a false history, and the content of the TV series must respect the historical facts, such historical nihilism is not allowed to be broken, and it will mistake teenagers.
