Painting Appreciation | Southern Song Li Tang "Xianyan Medicine Harvesting Map"

This painting is selected from the seventh painting of the "Famous Picture Collection Collection", depicting the banks of the forest stream, ancient trees, green trees, and a shoulder of a lotus gourd, along the winding path to the forest to collect medicine. The author takes the forest with interlaced branches and dense leaves as "real", and the stream and path as "virtual", and adopts an oblique layout, which corresponds to the virtual and the real, which has shown the idea of the corner composition of the Southern Song Dynasty. The whole work is made of thick ink to hook the outline of the mountain stone trees, and the leaves are painted with double hooks, and then covered with green to make the forest more lush. The water patterns are drawn with sharp strokes, and the textures of slope stones and trees are dyed with relatively simple brushstrokes, and the brushwork is flexible. There is no author's stamp on this painting, but the method of painting trees and stones and coloring is similar to Li Tang's style, perhaps for this reason, the old signature named this painting Li Tang's work.
