Fourth in the world last month! BYD's latest sales announced

On October 2, BYD Co., Ltd. announced the latest production and sales report. Data show that BYD's new energy vehicle sales in September were 287,500 units, a year-on-year increase of 42.83%, of which new energy passenger vehicle sales were 286,900 units, a year-on-year increase of 42.76%. In addition, as of September, BYD's cumulative sales volume was 2,079,600 units, a year-on-year increase of 75.48%, and the current completion rate of BYD's sales target is 69.32% according to the annual sales target of 3 million units, which means that BYD needs to maintain an average sales volume of more than 300,000 units in the next three months before it is possible to complete the sales target.

It should be noted that BYD announces wholesale sales, which is different from the sales data statistics announced by new forces. Wholesale sales refer to the number of vehicles shipped by automakers to regional dealerships that may not have already been sold. Retail sales refer to the delivery of a vehicle by a dealer to the actual purchaser, which is also a true reflection of the final vehicle sale. According to data from the Passenger Association of China, BYD's retail sales from January to August 2023 were 1.627 million units, while the official wholesale sales were 1.7922 million units.

At present, BYD's automobile sales mainly come from the BYD brand, covering Ocean Network and Dynasty Net, with sales of 139,800 units and 133,800 units respectively in September. In the marine network, the highest sales product is Song PLUS with 40,200 units, Seagull with more than 40,000 units with 40,100 units, and Dolphin with 32,900 units. In the dynasty network, the highest sales model is the Qin family, with 45,100 units and 32,900 yuan.

In the high-end market, BYD has laid out the three major brands of Denza , Fangcheng Leopard, and Yangwang, and only the Denza brand has started delivery. It is understood that the current Denza brand models on sale include D9, N8 and N7, of which Denza D9 is the main source of sales, with sales of 10,249 units in September. From the price point of view, the price range of Denza D9 in China is 33.58-465,800 yuan, compared with BYD's other products, the price has indeed entered the luxury range, and the performance in the domestic MPV market is not bad.

According to the previous brand plan, Denza plans five product series D, E, N, Z and A, covering MPV, SUV, sedan and urban sports car categories. The Denza N7 and Denza N8 are priced at more than 300,000 yuan, and on August 5, the Denza N8 was officially launched, positioning itself as a medium and large SUV, providing pure electric and hybrid power, and selling 1,097 units in the first month.

The success of the Denza brand has also allowed BYD to accelerate the pace of high-end, and has successively planned the Yangwang car and the Equation Leopard car. On September 20, Yangwang Auto's first mass-produced car, Yangwang U8 Luxury Edition, was officially launched, and the new car was priced at the same as the pre-sale price, both of which were 1.098 million yuan. Based on previous reports, looking up to the U8 is a range-extended large SUV, which will be equipped with four wheel side motors, which can independently control four wheels, realize lateral movement, turn in place and other functions, and also allow the vehicle to float on the surface of the water to complete straight driving and steering operations.

From the perspective of a single brand, BYD has surpassed Volkswagen and Japanese in China, and in the global market, BYD's sales in August surpassed Hyundai and Ford for the first time, becoming the world's fourth car company. In September, BYD's sales increased again and is expected to surpass Honda.

BYD can rank fourth in the world, in addition to the continuous growth of sales in the domestic market, there are also expanding overseas markets. Since the second half of last year, the pace of BYD's passenger cars going overseas has been accelerating. Up to now, it has entered 53 countries and regions such as Japan, Germany, and Australia. Among them, the footprint in Europe alone covers 15 countries and the store network exceeds 140. In the first half of this year, BYD sold 145,500 overseas passenger cars.

At the 2023 Munich Motor Show, BYD revealed that it will confirm the location of its first passenger car plant in Europe by the end of the year and expand its dealer network in Europe to more than 200. According to the plan, BYD's overseas exports are expected to be 250,000-300,000 units in 2023, and the export volume may reach 1 million units next year.
