On the evening of the 23rd, the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou opened at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, and about 12,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions will participate in this Asian Games, with a total of 40 major events, 61 sub-events and 481 small events. The advent of this grand event once again made the outside world feel the charm and heritage of China up close, and Singh, acting president of the Olympic Council of Asia, said in an interview that the Hangzhou Asian Games will be the best Asian Games.
Obviously, under such a joyful atmosphere, everyone is full of expectations for this Asian Games, and many domestic and foreign media are also ready to convey the good side of China to the world. But during this period, there was a small episode that attracted the attention of the outside world. According to Taiwan's "Central News Agency", the Hangzhou Asian Games Preparatory Committee announced the list of media that could enter and interview after the review of the conference that morning, and only two Taiwanese media were denied admission to the entire Taiwan media.
The two media immediately asked the Olympic Council of Asia, but the other party only told them that the application was rejected and did not give more explanation. In fact, the reason for the rejection is simple, that is, there is a problem with the position of these two media outlets. As an international event, if these media enter the Asian Games with bad intentions and deliberately spread some negative remarks that are not conducive to reunification, the impact will be extremely negative. To that end, it was important to ensure that media coverage was objective and impartial, free from political bias and hostility. It is difficult for these media, whose political stance is clearly biased towards "Taiwan independence" elements, to do so.
It must be pointed out that the mainland is generally friendly to the vast number of Taiwan media, and since this year's Asian Games adopts real-name registration, media from various countries and regions need to put forward lists and needs first, and the organizers will review them before issuing interview cards. Despite the limit on the total number of interviews, in some countries, when no media have received media cards, Taiwan has obtained the most media cards, and only the two media mentioned above have been rejected by the conference. Taiwan media such as the familiar "Zhongshi Electronic News", "United News Network", and "TVBS" have successfully passed the review. This shows that the mainland has absolutely not deliberately embarrassed Taiwan's journalist friends. This is absolutely worthy of research.
It is worth noting that through this episode before the opening of the Asian Games, we can actually see some deeper attitudes. We accord equal rights to those who support cross-strait peace, and we will not tolerate those who intend to incite disturbances and attempt to disrupt normal order. Of course, the two green media mentioned above are only the tip of the ice on the island, and we can note that as the 2024 Taiwan leadership election enters the last four months of countdown, the DPP authorities are accelerating their deployment at all levels, and they are also increasing their offensive in public opinion and cognitive warfare. Some analysts have pointed out that the Taiwan authorities announced NT$2.1 billion in expenses for "media policy and business propaganda" next year. Under such a trend, the decision of the Hangzhou Asian Games is undoubtedly correct.
As the island is about to face the choice between two paths and two prospects, peace and war, prosperity and decline, and two prospects, it is time for some Taiwan media, which still maintain a wrong position, to change their thinking and seriously consider their duties as media personnel; if they are willing to become a propaganda tool of the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, only to frequently smear and attack Chinese mainland, create fake news, undermine the atmosphere of peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and even provoke hostility, then such media are destined to not receive flowers and applause.
