The 31st Session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress voted to pass the Law on the Promotion of Family Education on the 23rd.
The law makes it clear that the parents or other guardians of minors are responsible for carrying out family education. The State and society provide guidance, support and services for family education.
In order to echo the "double reduction" requirement of reducing the homework burden and off-campus training burden of students in the compulsory education stage, the law stipulates that local people's governments at or above the county level shall strengthen supervision and management, reduce the burden of homework and off-campus training on students in the compulsory education stage, smooth the communication channels between schools and families, and promote the mutual cooperation between school education and family education. Minors' parents or other guardians shall reasonably arrange time for minors to study, rest, recreation, and physical exercise, avoid increasing minors' learning burdens, and prevent minors from becoming addicted to the Internet.
