Whether Chinese children learn English or not is a hotly debated topic. In recent years, there have been calls for the abolition of English, and it has been thought that it has taken a lot of effort and has not been effective.
In this regard, what does Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei think?
In July, Ren had a conversation with the dean of the journalism and communication faculty of a university about school education. As for whether to learn English or not, he said this: Now some people say, don't learn English. Without learning English, rural children will always be farmers. If you don't learn English, how will you get a job in this world in the future? Others say that they don't study mathematics. If you are not good at math and English, you can't enter the high-end industry. The children of the peasants are always peasants, and class differentiation emerges.
At first glance, what Ren Zhengfei said gave people a bad feeling and meant to discriminate against rural children. After careful analysis, I think that it is not at all what it seems.
First of all, why mention the problem of rural children learning English, because in terms of school education between urban and rural areas, the level of English teaching in rural schools is obviously far inferior to that of large cities. Here, when I say rural areas, I mean not only townships, but also county towns, and even some city-level cities.
In my own case, I went to junior high school in a township, and then high school in the county seat, where I majored in English. I thought my English scores were strangely good, but when I entered university, I realized that my English level was not comparable to that of children in big cities. No way, it's not that I don't work hard in middle school, but it's that I was born deficient, and the level of teaching and the learning environment are there.
Secondly, if you don't learn English, you won't be able to get a job in this world in the future, is there anything wrong with this sentence? No.
Looking at the country, most jobs, most positions, have nothing to do with English, this is a fact, so let's say that learning English is useless. However, we should pay attention to a very real problem, that is, "learning and excellent will go abroad". Those college students who really learn and succeed in their studies can run out of the country. You run abroad, English can't work, can't do it, definitely not. Therefore, Ren Zhengfei's intentions are obvious, of course, I don't think he is encouraging everyone to go abroad, because he himself has been rooted in China and immersed himself in revitalizing the national high-tech industry.
Third, Ren Zhengfei stands at the level of Huawei, or rather, the high-tech level, mathematics and English are not good, it is difficult to enter the high-end industry, and there is no problem.
Taking Huawei as an example, high-tech research, mathematics and English are inseparable. Mathematics does not need to be spoken, as for English, without Chinese and foreign communication, behind closed doors, what can be created. Moreover, to open up the international market, I don't know English, and I want to open up a size.
Although the current Sino-US relations, or our relations with Western countries, are very delicate, facts have long proved that it is absolutely impossible to close the country.
Of course, as a college entrance examination, English is the main subject, and poor grades will definitely affect the final score, and there is no doubt that the college entrance examination is the main way to achieve class leapfrogging for rural children.
