When it comes to white-bladed combat, people first think of the bloody scenes of ancient battlefields, but with the emergence of hot weapons and the rapid development of long-range weapons, white-bladed fighting has become rare in modern battlefields.
If in the eighties of the last century, there was still a scene of "bayonets within five meters to see red", everyone must be very surprised, but in modern warfare it really happened.
Today, I will introduce the "Fakashan White Blade Battle" that took place in the self-defense counterattack war against Vietnam.
The 1st and 5th companies were ordered to hold the positions
In 1979, the Chinese People's Liberation Army withdrew after a severe lesson to the Vietnamese monkeys, but the Vietnamese army, which was immortal in thieves, beat the snake with the stick, and began to create incidents on the mainland border and shell our border soldiers and civilians. In this case, our army decided to strike again. So there was the battle to recover Laoshan and Faka Mountain in the eighties.
This fierce white-knuckle battle took place during the battle to retake Mount Faka. The Battle of Mount Faka began on May 5, 1981, and ended on June 30, 1981, lasting a total of 57 days.
In nearly two months of fighting, China and Vietnam engaged in fierce artillery battles and sneak attacks, and at the most anxious time, the two sides engaged in fierce hand-to-hand combat. According to the recollections of our witnesses at that time, flesh and blood were flying on the position, there were stump limbs and broken arms everywhere, and both sides were killed red-eyed.
The warriors are like pawns on a chessboard who have crossed the river, only advancing but not retreating, and moving forward.
On May 12 of that year, the 4th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 9th Regiment of the 3rd Border Division, which had been fighting fiercely on the position for eight days and nights, had lost its combat capability because of insufficient ammunition supplies and more than half of the casualties. The 5th Company of the battalion was ordered to replace the defense of the 4th Company, and the 5th Company was replaced by the top company of the unit, and most of the cadres of the company had participated in 79 years of overseas operations.
He has experienced the baptism of war and has excellent combat skills and rich combat experience.
Company commander Qiu Tan An led the soldiers of the company to take over the defensive position of the 4th Company, and at that time, the 1st platoon of the 5th Company was also transferred to the battalion command post to take on the defense task, so only two platoons of the 5th Company actually took over the defense of the 4th Company.
The defensive position of the 5th Company is very small, with a total length of only 160 meters, an average width of between 60 and 70 meters, and the terrain is flat, making it an easy position to attack and difficult to defend.
Qiu Tan'an, an experienced company commander, began to line up his troops, because the position was small and the enemy's artillery fire was relatively fierce, so the troops should be scattered and should not be concentrated.
So Qiu Tan An led 3 platoons and a heavy machine gun and two 60 mortars attached to it and an engineer squad into the defensive position. The instructor led the 2nd platoon as a reserve in the area of waiting for attack, ready to support the main position.
Qiu Tan'an placed a squad of defensive troops on the southernmost highland and the middle highland of the position.
He personally led a squad to guard the northernmost heights. He placed heavy machine guns at the junction of the heights at the central and southern ends, and placed two mortars on either side of the position.
2. Night raids by the Vietnamese army
On May 13, Qiu Tan'an's company spotted a number of Vietnamese trucks passing down the mountain, and immediately asked his superiors to launch an artillery attack.
Su Zhanhua, the platoon commander of the 3rd platoon defending the No. 4 Heights, was unfortunately shot and killed in the enemy's shelling, and Qiu Tan An tearfully sent the remains of his comrades to the position, and at the same time appointed Yin Fengguang, the squad leader of the 7th squad, as acting platoon leader.
In the early hours of the morning three days after they entered the defensive position, the Vietnamese suddenly used artillery to bombard the position, and all positions were on alert, because it meant that the enemy was about to attack.
At 3 a.m., an infantry regiment of the Vietnamese army plus a special agent battalion, under the cover of artillery fire, took advantage of the night to encircle the Phaka Hill position in three directions.
The first to be attacked by the enemy was the southernmost position defended by the 7th squad, followed by signs of enemy activity in the middle and northern positions. Company commander Qiu Tan'an did not panic, but calmly ordered the soldiers in all positions to attack after the enemy entered a range of 20 meters.
When the Vietnamese immediately rushed to the front of the position, our light and heavy machine guns crossed cover and opened fire, catching the Vietnamese by surprise, and the Vietnamese failed to succeed in several subsequent attacks.
And every time the Vietnamese attack failed, our positions would be bombarded by enemy artillery fire more fiercely, and countless shells fell on our defensive positions one after another. The defensive positions of the 5th Company were blown into scorched earth, and all the telephone lines for communication with the rear were blown up.
At this point, the 5th company lost contact with the outside world.
A large number of Vietnamese troops continued to rush forward under the cover of artillery fire, and the 8th squad led by company commander Qiu Tan An repelled several attacks launched by a company of the Vietnamese army, and several soldiers such as Xu Van Yong, deputy squad leader of the 8th squad, died heroically.
Third, like a nail nailed to the position!
At this time, the Vietnamese army also killed red eyes, almost crazy repeated attacks on our positions.
The 9 commanders and fighters of the 7th class fought fiercely with the Vietnamese army in a desperate situation with no way to retreat, and the two sides fought together with daggers, bayonets, and military thorns, but in the end, because they were outnumbered, all 9 soldiers were martyred.
Since all the soldiers of the 7th class were killed, the details of many martyrs' battles were all lost in the dust of history.
But the sacrifice posture of the 9 soldiers of the 7th squad on the 5th heights seems to tell us everything, everyone is still in a state of battle, the back of the squad leader Yin Fengguang was sifted by the enemy's bullets, and the blood stained the military uniform red, but the mouth was still biting half of the enemy's ear.
Every soldier in the highland was fighting desperately with the Vietnamese troops who rushed into the trenches, and Duan Ngoc Seng, the leader of the 9th squad, resolutely pulled the cluster grenade when he was seriously injured, and died with the 7 Vietnamese soldiers who surrounded him.
In the face of the enemy's frantic attack, at the moment when the 5th Company was about to reach a desperate situation and was about to be completely destroyed, the artillery shells of the People's Liberation Army rained down on the defensive position of the 5th Company, and our artillery unit blocked and fired at the Vietnamese army for 40 minutes halfway up the mountain, firing more than 2,000 shells.
After the forward defensive position of the 5th Company lost contact with the regiment headquarters, regiment commander Wu Xianping observed that the firepower of our troops in the forward position was getting weaker and weaker, and the gunfire of the Vietnamese troops was very dense.
He immediately had a premonition that something bad would happen, and that the losses of the 5th Company in the position must have been very heavy.
At the risk of accidentally injuring his own people, he decisively ordered artillery units to cover our forward front with artillery fire. Therefore, it was decided that a large number of crazy Vietnamese troops who were still charging were blown up by our artillery fire, and the remaining enemy saw that there was no way to retreat, so they decided to fight to the death to seize our army's position.
The remaining fighters of our army knew in their hearts that the final decisive battle had arrived.
Every warrior is determined to die, swears to coexist with the position, and never takes half a step back.
In the end, only 9 of our soldiers remained in the entire position, and they ran out of ammunition. At the moment of desperation, the 6th Company of the 2nd Battalion, led by company commander Liang Tianhui, arrived in time, and after another bloody battle with the enemy, finally stabilized the defensive position of our army.
The battle continued until 8 o'clock the next morning, when the Vietnamese saw that they could not take their positions, so they had to throw down the corpses scattered over the mountains and retreat in embarrassment.
After a night of fighting, the Faka Hill position had become bare, the vegetation was completely blown away by artillery fire, all military strongholds, bunkers, and trenches had been razed to the ground, corpses were strewn everywhere on the position, and blood stained every inch of the position.
In the defense battle, the soldiers of the 5th Company annihilated more than 500 enemies, stubbornly blocked and repelled 16 crazy attacks of the enemy, and the 5th Company also suffered heavy casualties, and 94 soldiers died heroically.
They wedged themselves to the position like nails, not giving an inch. Brilliantly completed the task of holding the position ordered by the superiors.

After the war, the 5th Company was awarded the honorary title of "Steadfast Hero Company" by the Guangzhou Military Region.
The heroic deeds of the officers and men of the Hero Company who regard death as if they were home will coexist with the mountains and rivers and shine with the sun and the moon.
