The sword refers to the "fourth industrial revolution"! Huawei: Provide the world with a "second choice"!

author:Securities Times

On September 20, HUAWEI CONNECT was held in Shanghai. Meng Wanzhou, Vice Chairman, Rotating Chairman, and CFO of Huawei, said at the meeting that computing power is the core driving force for the development of artificial intelligence. Huawei is committed to building a solid computing power foundation in China and building a second choice for the world.

Previously, Ren Zhengfei also said in a conversation with the ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Competition) Foundation and students of coaches and gold medalists: "We are about to enter the fourth industrial revolution, and the foundation is big computing power. ”

At the conference, Huawei also proposed a comprehensive intelligent strategy, with the goal of "accelerating the intelligent transformation of thousands of industries". It is understood that under the guidance of the comprehensive intelligent strategy, Huawei will continue to build a solid computing power foundation to enable a variety of models and industries.

Huawei Increases Computing Power and Competes for the "Fourth Industrial Revolution"

Simply put, computing power is computing power. If the development of artificial intelligence and the digital transformation of all walks of life are like "cooking", then computing power is an indispensable "stir-frying pot".

At the Huawei Connect Conference held on September 20, Meng Wanzhou delivered a keynote speech on "Win-Win Intelligent Future". She said that in the development of artificial intelligence, computing power is the core driving force. Large models require large computing power, and the size of computing power determines the speed of AI iteration and innovation, and also affects the speed of economic development. The scarcity and high cost of computing power have become the core factors restricting the development of AI.

At present, artificial intelligence neural network models with parameters exceeding hundreds of billions or even trillions are accelerating into thousands of industries. Meng Wanzhou believes that from the era of small models to the era of large models, the practicality of AI technology has undergone a "qualitative leap".

"In the past, different use cases required the development of different models. Now, by absorbing massive knowledge, a model can be adapted to a variety of business scenarios, which greatly reduces the threshold of AI development and application, shortens the cycle from technology to application, and makes it possible for AI to solve industry problems from workshop development and scenario-based customization to industrial development and scenario-based tuning. Meng Wanzhou said.

In this process, the importance of computing power is increasingly prominent, if the application of large models in all walks of life is a "hundred gardens" with a hundred flowers, then computing power is the "black soil" that cultivates various flowers. According to IDC data, the size of China's smart computing power market will grow from 31.7EFLOPS in 2019 (that is, 317 billion billion floating point operations per second) to 1271.4 EFLOPS (12.714 trillion floating point operations per second) in 2026, with a compound annual growth rate of about 69.4% from 2019 to 2026.

"Huawei is committed to building a solid computing power base in China and building a second choice for the world. We will continue to improve the integration capabilities of the 'soft and hard core edge-end cloud', thicken the 'black soil', and meet the diverse AI computing power needs of all walks of life." Meng Wanzhou said.

According to reports, Huawei will give full play to its comprehensive advantages in computing, storage, network, energy and other fields, change the traditional server stacking mode, and focus on building AI clusters with innovative system architecture ideas, realize the integrated design of computing power, transportation capacity, and storage power, break through the bottleneck of computing power, and provide sustainable surging computing power.

The development of computing power is also Huawei's in-depth layout of the "fourth industrial revolution". In the minutes of a conversation between Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei and the ICPC Foundation and the coaches and gold medalists in August this year, Ren Zhengfei also said: "We are about to enter the fourth industrial revolution, and the foundation is big computing power. Today's young people may be the leaders of the Fourth Industrial Revolution tomorrow. ”

According to incomplete statistics from the Shanghai Securities Research Report, there are currently more than 40 urban intelligent computing centers built or planned in China, of which Huawei participates in 20. Shanghai Securities believes that Huawei has comprehensively deployed the information and innovation ecosystem, built a Kunpeng-based general computing base and an Ascend-based intelligent computing base, which is expected to fully benefit from the construction of information innovation and AI computing power.

The comprehensive intelligent strategy is proposed to accelerate the intelligent transformation of various industries

At the Huawei Connect Conference, Huawei also proposed the "All Intelligence" strategy.

Meng Wanzhou said that the goal of "comprehensive intelligence" is to "accelerate the intelligent transformation of thousands of industries". First, make all objects joinable. Not only physical, but also logical, virtual, not only digital equipment, but also traditional terminals and devices, not only so that the data can come up, but also the intention can go down.

Second, make all applications modelable, and through the big model paradigm, let intelligent applications quickly benefit everyone, every family, and every organization.

Third, make all decisions computable. With the ubiquity of computing power, accelerate the omnipresence of intelligence, and let the potential of data be continuously released and superimposed in computing.

Meng Wanzhou said that since 2003, CT (communication technology) and IT (information technology) have met in network infrastructure technology, and Huawei has proposed the All IP strategy to promote various technical standards and protocols in the field of communications, from seven countries and eight systems to unification. "The car is on the same track, the book is the same text", thus promoting the ubiquity of connectivity. Huawei supports the stable operation of more than 1,500 networks in more than 170 countries and regions, connecting more than one-third of the world's population.

In 2013, with the accelerated development of cloud computing technology, Huawei proposed the All Cloud strategy to accelerate the upgrade of digital transformation. Today, HUAWEI CLOUD is one of the fastest-growing mainstream cloud vendors in the world, deploying 30 regions and 84 availability zones around the world, aggregating 42,000 partners and 5 million developers around the world, and serving 3 million customers around the world.

According to Canalys statistics, in the first quarter of 2023, Alibaba Cloud, HUAWEI CLOUD, Tencent Cloud and Baidu Intelligent Cloud became the top four cloud service providers in China's cloud infrastructure market. HUAWEI CLOUD is the second largest cloud service provider in China, accounting for 20% of the market share, and its growth rate has exceeded the overall level of the market for three consecutive quarters.

At the Huawei Analyst Conference held in April this year, Peng Song, President of ICT Strategy and Marketing of Huawei, said: "Digital infrastructure is like a 'highway' in the digital economy era, and through the coordinated development of transportation capacity, computing power, and storage capacity, data collection, transmission, computing, storage, and analysis can be more efficient, thereby leapfrogging digital productivity and fully unleashing the vitality of the digital economy." ”

In addition to the continuous layout of computing power, Huawei has also recently achieved breakthroughs in transportation capacity. Recently, Huawei's 5G Promotion Group announced that it took the lead in completing all functional test cases of 5G-A (also known as 5.5G, which is a transition technology between 5G and 6G) on September 11.

It is understood that 5G-Advanced uplink peak and downlink peak are expected to be 10 times higher than existing 5G networks, 10 times better connection density, 10 times better positioning accuracy, and 10 times more energy efficient.

Wang Peng, an associate researcher at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, said in an interview with reporters: "Compared with 5G, 5.5G has more powerful functions, whether it is bandwidth, transmission speed, reducing efficiency losses and it can expand use scenarios. At the same time, 5.5G is also the key to moving towards 6G sixth-generation mobile communication technology. ”

Overall, the digital economy has become the main engine of global economic development. According to the Global Computing Power Index Assessment Report jointly compiled by Tsinghua University and other institutions in July this year, the proportion of digital economy in GDP in major countries in the world will continue to increase from 2022 to 2023, and is expected to reach 54% by 2026.

Huawei is building a solid infrastructure for the development of the digital economy through computing power and transportation capacity, providing a solid foundation for the arrival of the "fourth industrial revolution".
