On September 21, the most unique popular science course "Tiangong Classroom" will start again. 10 years ago, as astronaut Wang Yaping asked questions and answered questions to students on the ground on Tiangong-1, the first space-earth interactive space lecture on the mainland kicked off.
More than 60 million middle school students across the country and viewers in front of the TV saw for the first time the infinite tension of the water film in space through live broadcasting. The pendulum of circular motion, the spinning top in the air, these wonders that no one has ever seen before, made all the audience excited.
It can be said that this is the highest standard and the widest coverage of a popular science course at the national level. With the continuous breakthrough of mainland space technology, the frequency of space teaching is getting higher and higher, and it has become a reserved project after the long-term manned residence of the mainland space station.
The Excellence Program helps the "seeds" of science take root
Every "space classroom" has planted scientific "seeds" in the hearts of a group of children, and some of these "seeds" have begun to take root and germinate. Today, Zhang Yuer, who is in his second year of high school, remembers the magical space experiment class he saw 10 years ago.
Curiosity drove Zhang's interest in physics. After continuous efforts, at the beginning of 2023, he was selected into the "Talent Program" set up by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education for high school students. This is an important reserve talent training program in the mainland's science popularization plan, aiming to select a group of middle school students with excellent character and learning ability, so that they can enter the university and participate in scientific research practice under the guidance of tutors in natural sciences and basic disciplines.
After two-way selection, Zhang Yuer became a member of the research team of Professor Lv Guanghong of Beihang University, and participated in the project research in his spare time for one year.
Here, Zhang Yuer, together with three other high school students of the same year, was able to listen to the cutting-edge lectures of the supervisor, use the cutting-edge experimental equipment, and participate in the most important project topics.

Now, the implementation of the "Excellence Program" has entered its 10th year. More than 7,000 outstanding middle school students with discipline expertise and innovation potential have been trained across the country, and a number of scientific research reserve forces have been sent to institutions of higher learning.
