The Ten Great Disciples of the Buddha - The First Su Bodhi (1)

The auspicious omen of empty birth

The number of words spoken by the Great Sage Buddha about life in the universe is truly vast and boundless. There is no doubt that all of the Buddha's teachings are centered on Mahayana and Prajna in Mahayana. What is Prajna? The best explanation is the wisdom of being aware of voidness.

Empty, too mysterious, too difficult to understand, say yes or no, say nothing is not. Emptiness is not a truth that can be understood by words, nor can it be understood with the mind. Under the Buddha's throne, among the 1,250 great arhat disciples, the one who can truly understand the truth of emptiness and truly realize the mysterious meaning of emptiness is His Holiness Su Bodhi who is the first to solve emptiness.

Speaking of Su Bodhi, we know from the auspicious signs of his first birth that he is an extraordinary and peculiar figure.

It turned out that on the day of His Holiness's birth, all the treasures and utensils in the family suddenly disappeared, and the whole family was very worried, so they quickly asked the master to come back. After the master, he said: This is a gratifying thing, your family is born to a noble son, and the gold and silver treasures in the room will be empty when the noble son is born, which symbolizes that he is the first person to solve the void! Just name him Sora Sheng! This is a matter of great fortune, and he will not be bound by the fame and fortune of the world in the future, even if he is named Zenji.

The words of the teacher calmed the hearts of the whole family, and from then on, His Holiness's great name, some called him Empty Life, others called him Zenkichi, until three days later, the treasures and utensils in His Holiness's home were restored to their original state. His Holiness the first to solve the void, the sign of the first birth, is really a rare thing, ancient and modern.

A small philanthropist who gives alms

When Su Bodhi was a child, before he took refuge in the Buddha, his view of the world and his treatment of others were different.

He grew up in a wealthy family, and his parents loved him greatly, but he did not want to be a slave to gold and silver treasure from an early age. The money given to him by his parents was also taken to help the poor at any time. If you encounter a beggar on the road, you will even take off your coat and give alms to others, and run home wearing only shorts and shorts.

His parents were not stingy with money, but they often could not agree with the style of their beloved son, and sometimes called him to their side and admonished: "Empty life!" It's really bad for you to behave like this, your own money, without asking for any reason, you take it to others; The clothes are worn by yourself, you take them off to people, how ugly it is to be naked!

Su Bodhi replied gently and respectfully to her parents: I don't know why, but in my heart, I feel that everything in the world is closely related to me, and everyone seems to be in the same body as me. People are born naked, why is it bad to be naked? What is the difference between giving your own things to others and me?

After listening to Xu Bodhi's words, his parents said unhappily: You child is so strange, you don't know how to use money, you don't know what to wear, but you say those inexplicable truths, and you are not afraid of laughter. From now on, if you don't change, you will simply be locked up at home and will not let you out!

But Su Bodhi still did not change his benevolent nature, and his parents locked him up at home, which was Su Bodhi's luck, and then he stayed at home every day and read books on Indian religion and philosophy at that time, which made him have a higher awareness of the problems of life, and he often proudly said to his parents: Everything in the universe seems to be reflected in my heart, but my heart seems to be empty. If there were no wise and enlightened saints in the world, no one would be qualified to discuss with me the state of mind of the liberated person, and no one would understand the world in my heart.

Young Su Bodhi, his parents listened to his proud words, and then thought of the strange things that everything was empty in his home when he was born, strange people and strange words, and his parents couldn't help but secretly marvel at their beloved son.

Surrender to the Buddha's seat

Once, when Buddha preached in Su Bodhi's hometown, the villagers said that Buddha was all Homo sapiens, and when it comes to wisdom, no one in the world can compare with Buddha.

Such a discussion had long reached Su Bodhi's ears, and his parents, following the villagers, had taken refuge in the Buddha.

In the family of Su Bodhi, who has always believed in traditional Brahmanism, why did his parents follow the villagers and easily convert? At this time, it was Su Bodhi's turn to find his parents strange.

One day, Su Bodhi's father said to him, "Empty life! You often think that you are wise and have learned the truth of life, but you are far worse than the Buddha. Buddha not only has great wisdom, but also great compassion and great powers, and since Buddha came to the local area, almost all the people in the village have taken refuge in Buddha. I also want to respectfully ask the Buddha to come to your home to provide for you, hoping that you can put an end to your arrogant heart in front of the Buddha. Su Bodhichitta was very unconvinced, and he replied: "The Buddha in your eyes is all Homo sapiens, but in my eyes, it may be very ordinary.

Although Su Bodhi said this, what kind of person was the Buddha? Why is there so much motivation? In the lake of Su Bodhi's usually calm heart, there was a huge wave, and he couldn't wait to see the Buddha when he came to his home to receive offerings, and he thought, what if the Buddha is busy and can't come? So on this night, Su Bodhi secretly went to see the Buddha first.

At night, the cool breeze is practiced, and a winding moon bends high in the sky, and the stars twinkle, like snickering at the curious Su Bodhi. Su Bodhi walked alone to the place where the Buddha spoke, and the Buddha was sitting on a high throne, with torches lit all around, and kneeling below were tens of thousands of listeners. There seems to be light behind the Buddha!

This is not like a human being, this appearance is too complete, too solemn, and the Buddha's incarnation is beyond Su Bodhi's imagination.

The earth is quiet, and tens of millions of listeners hold their breath and dare not make a sound, while only the Buddha's Dharma is flowing.

Buddha said: There should be no conflict in the world, there is no difference between me and me, and everyone is one together.

All dharma arises from causes and conditions, and nothing can exist on its own. I and all Dharma are dependent on each other to survive, giving mercy and favors to all sentient beings, which looks like a human being, but in fact has great interests for ourselves!

The Buddha's teachings were very kind, and Su Bodhi was very touched by the Buddha's teachings. Su Bodhi huddled in the crowd and secretly folded his palms to pay tribute to the Buddha.

After the Buddha's teaching, he returned to rest in the ashram prepared by the faithful, and Su Bodhi lingered at the door, he wanted to meet the Buddha, but he did not have the courage.

As if knowing Su Bodhi's mind, the Buddha stood at the door and asked, "Who are you?" Come and sit in my room and I'll talk to you! I am Su Bodhi and I hope that Buddha will accept me as a disciple!

Scold! Su Bodhi is you, and I have long heard that you are the smartest young man in the village. Very good, really intelligent people can really believe in the Dharma. Do your parents know? Buddha asked lovingly.

I think my parents would be happy to know that I was honored to have Buddha as my teacher.

Buddha loved Su Bodhi and since then he has been an outstanding disciple of the Buddha's sangha.
