Professor Ding Zhaozhong is a Nobel Laureate in Physics and a Chinese-American physicist. Since 1994, he has led the AMS experiment in the space search for antimatter and dark matter, and was elected as a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the same year. Ding Zhaozhong has a good relationship with Shandong University, and his father Ding Guanhai was admitted to the Chinese Department of National Qingdao University (renamed National Shandong University in 1932) in 1930, becoming the first batch of students after the joint school, and was in the same class as Zang Kejia. After graduating in 1934, Ding Guanhai stayed on to work at the university; in August 1936, after four years abroad, he returned to teach at Shandong University until the end of 1938. In June 1946, Shandong University began to resume, and Ding Guanhai returned to the university again as one of the first batch of hired faculty members after the re-establishment, and became a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering of the College of Engineering, leaving in 1947.
Ding Zhaozhong continued his father's fate with Shanda. Since 1994, he has visited Shandong University more than ten times, and each time he has brought different surprises to Shandong masters and students. In April 2004, he visited Shanda university to discuss the participation of Shanda in AMS and other matters, and finally signed a cooperation agreement.
