On Friday, King Charles III held a private chapel ceremony in Scotland to mark the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, who are visiting west Wales, will hold a small private ceremony at St David's Cathedral on Friday to commemorate the Queen's life.

They will then meet members of the local community in the nearby cloister, including locals who met her during her visit to the city.

In his anniversary message, King Charles wrote: "As we commemorate the death of Her Majesty the late Queen and the first anniversary of my accession to the throne, we recall with grief her long life, her dedicated service and what she meant to so many of us. ”

The bells of Westminster Abbey will ring from 1pm to mark the first anniversary of the king's accession to the throne. Traditionally, on the anniversary of the monarch's accession to the throne, cannon salutes are fired at the Tower of London, Hyde Park, Edinburgh Castle and Hillsboro Castle.

Rishi Sunak said he was looking forward to a "special" trip to Delhi and he was confident he would be welcomed like an "Indian son-in-law" there when he visited the country for the first time after entering Downing Street.

He will arrive in the city on Friday morning, ahead of this weekend's G20 summit, his first visit to India since the pandemic.

Downing Street hopes Sunak's Indian ancestry and the arrival of his wife, Akshata Muti, the daughter of one of India's richest men, will help guarantee him a warm welcome from locals on arrival. Sunak plans to use the trip to push progress on a trade deal with India.

Speaking to reporters on his way to Delhi, Sunak said: "It's special. I will visit a country that is very close to me. I haven't been back in years. ”

He usually takes his family to India every February, but he said he has forgone those annual trips since becoming prime minister in 2020.

A senior head of the NHS admits that some hospitals are so dilapidated that wards and operating theatres often have to be closed to protect patient safety.

Julian Kelly, deputy chief executive of NHS England, made the statement on Thursday while giving evidence to the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee.

He was asked about the government's commitment to build 40 new hospitals by 2030. Kelly told MPs that some NHS facilities were in such disrepair that the health service "has had to close wards and transfer patients", which limits our ability to treat patients.

Kelly was referring to the problems caused by the hospital's poor structure, either because they were made of dangerous reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac) or because the hospital's environment has deteriorated in recent years as NHS's capital budget has been squeezed.

The cost of tackling the backlog of repairs in the NHS in England has risen to a record £10.2 billion, of which £1.8 billion is spent fixing 'high-risk' issues.

It's a Yorkshire town best known for the birthplace of Betty Boothroyd, but the National Heritage Agency has now added an even more surprising label to Dusbury: the greenest town in 19th-century England.

New research has been conducted in historic England revealing the town's importance as an international centre for recycled cloth during the Industrial Revolution.

It was announced Friday that 12 buildings in the town have applied for protection, with one upgraded to give them greater protection and recognition.

Sarah Charlesworth, team leader of the North England Directory, said the lists would help tell the story of Dusbury's contribution to England's textile industry and recycling development.

Police said they had been looking for terror suspect Daniel Abed Kalev on the run in a park in southwest London, not far from the prison where he absconded.

Scotland confirmed that Friday's "police activity" in Richmond Park was part of a hunt for the former British soldier, whose escape from nearby HMP Wandsworth drew attention from government authorities.

Kalev is believed to have slipped out of the prison kitchen where he was being imprisoned and tied himself to the bottom of a food delivery truck. He is currently being hunted down and security checks have been tightened at ports and airports, causing delays for passengers.

On Friday, Foreign Secretary James Cleverley declined to comment on whether he was confident he could find Kalev.

"We do have excellent security services and police services. I don't think speculation is credible to me. It's important that we let the police and investigators do their jobs," he told ITV's Good Morning Britain.

The Association of Prison Officials blamed the escape on spending cuts implemented by the Conservative-led government over the past 13 years. Its national chairman, Mark Fairhurst, said on BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "This clear link dates back to 2010, when a Conservative government came to power and put austerity measures on all of us.
