Biggs, the leader of the "Proud Boys", was sentenced to 17 years in prison for "seditious conspiracy", among others

On August 31, U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Kelly in Washington, D.C., sentenced Joseph Biggs, the leader of the far-right organization Proud Boys, to 17 years in prison for "seditious conspiracy" and other crimes. Another leader, Zachary Hall, a former Marine and leader of the Philadelphia area of the group, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on the same charges.

The "Proud Boys" organization was the spearhead of the riot on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, and was dubbed "Trump's bodyguard" by the US media as it tried to prevent the Trump administration from handing over power to the newly elected Biden administration.

Prosecutors in this case petitioned Judge Kelly and sentenced Biggs to 33 years in prison.
