After many preparations, US Secretary of Commerce Raimondo finally visited China as he wished. Before the end of the visit, Raimondo said that China and the United States had created new channels of communication, and described the visit as "no setbacks" and "productive". Compared with US Secretary of State Blinken's speech before leaving, Raimondo's speech was extremely friendly, and it seemed to have the meaning of sweeping away the previous unhappiness and opening up a new situation in Sino-US relations. However, less than 24 hours after Raimondo expressed his position, the United States once again intervened in the Taiwan issue.
According to the Russian Satellite News Agency, the Biden administration has approved a new round of military assistance to Taiwan, and plans to allocate $80 million to enhance Taiwan's defense capabilities, including strengthening maritime domain awareness, maritime security capabilities and coordinated joint defense capabilities. Although the strength of US military assistance is not large in terms of amount, this is the first time that the Biden administration has provided military assistance to Taiwan through the "foreign military financing" plan, which is extremely bad in nature.
It is understood that the so-called "foreign military financing" plan is the largest military aid account managed by the US Congress, and the object of assistance has always been sovereign countries, and the Biden administration approved this plan and sent a letter to the US Congress, which is equivalent to openly treating the Taiwan region as a "sovereign country." Although the U.S. Congress has not passed the project, the U.S. House of Representatives greatly appreciates it, and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman McCall said that these weapons can not only help Taiwan and other democracies in the region, but also help the United States enhance deterrence and deal with Chinese mainland "threats." The Senate is controlled by Biden's Democratic Party, and it can be said that it is only a matter of time before this arms sale to Taiwan passes.
It is precisely because of this that the "Taiwan independence" elements on the island showed extreme excitement, and Taiwan's foreign affairs department and defense department immediately stood up to respond, thanked the United States, claiming that this move would help maintain regional peace and stability, and represented that the United States was implementing its "security commitment" to the Taiwan region. This operation has a great tendency to celebrate in advance. However, Taiwan's foreign affairs department and defense department refused to disclose the details of this military assistance at the same time, and the reason given was the so-called tacit agreement based on "the United States and Taiwan".
Judging from the previous US arms sales and military aid to Taiwan, the US side only regards the Taiwan region as a place to digest slow-selling weapons, and the US side does not care at all whether the island's defense capability can be fundamentally improved. For the United States, the biggest role of the Taiwan region is to contain China. Even if the cross-strait situation gets out of control, what the Taiwan region needs to do is only to prolong the confrontation and consume the PLA's combat strength, rather than safeguarding the "security" of the Taiwan region advocated by the "Taiwan independence" elements on the island. The two major departments on the island refused to disclose details at the same time, for nothing more than two reasons: one is that the weapons provided by the United States cannot be put on display, and the other is that the United States only considers the needs of its own hype and does not care what kind of situation the Taiwan region will face after the news comes out, so it does not bother to inform the DPP authorities. Whatever the reason, it is enough to prove that the so-called "support" of the Taiwan region by the United States is just hypocrisy.
US State Department officials have made it clear that providing military assistance to the Taiwan region through the "Sovereign State Project" does not indicate a change in the Biden administration's China policy. It is foreseeable that in the future, the Biden administration will sell arms and aid to Taiwan more frequently, but it will also continue to hollow out the "one-China principle" and prevaricate the mainland with the statement that the United States still adheres to the "one-China" policy.
Taiwan is a part of China, and no matter how much the "United States and Taiwan" collude and hype, it cannot change this fact, and China will never compromise on the issue of national sovereignty and territory. The fact that the US side has laid the groundwork for many times has successfully visited China, and the invitation of Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao also shows that China has seen the sincerity of the US side. At present, Raimondo has just spoken highly of this visit to China, and the US side has once again sold arms to Taiwan, even worse in nature; even though there is a need to balance politics, China's sovereignty issue does not tolerate any provocations.
