Scottie Pippen's remarks surprised many, saying he believed Phil Jackson's decision to pick Tony Kukoc's final shot in the playoffs was racially motivated.

The Hall of Famer reiterated his position. In the 1994 Chicago Bulls playoffs, Pippen refused to play with less than 2 seconds left in the game. He was angry that Jackson had designed a game to give Kukoc the final blow instead of Pippen. Pippen told GQ magazine that he felt it was a "racial discrimination" for Jackson.
