As one of the alliance cities, Zaozhuang jointly launched the 2023 City Marathon Invitational along the Grand Canal (Shandong) on the occasion of hosting the 2023 Zao Horse, inviting runners from 23 cities including Beijing, Tianjin and Langfang to participate in the name of cities along the Grand Canal.

This will promote the innovation and leadership of sports work along the Grand Canal (Shandong) Urban Sports Development Alliance, regional linkage, sharing and cooperation, comprehensive integration and coordinated development into a sports development community along the Grand Canal (Shandong) cities with distinctive characteristics, complementary advantages and common improvement, build an interactive platform for sports and cultural exchanges in the Grand Canal cities for runners along the Grand Canal, and provide opportunities for runners from all cities along the Grand Canal to compete together.
