However, Ryan acknowledged that investigators found the wreckage, which "knocked out a pretty big hole" in his theory. Earlier, investigators found a flaperon and two other wing fragments in the Indian Ocean.
But he said the claim should not be dismissed because the plane had not been found after four years of searching.
